Leicester City vs Everton Predictions

High-Stakes Clash at King Power Stadium

Key Stats
– Leicester City has failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 18 league games.
– Everton has won only two of their last 33 away league games (D10 L21).
– Harvey Barnes has scored five goals in 13 home games for Leicester City this season.

As we get closer and closer to the end of the season, tension builds up for the upcoming Premier League clash between Leicester City and Everton on Monday night at the King Power Stadium.

This is a crucial relegation ‘six-pointer,” as the two teams are occupying the 18th and 19th positions, respectively, and are both desperate for points to move above Nottingham Forest. After Monday’s clash, there will be just four games remaining in the Premier League, so the margins for error are very limited at this stage.

Defensive Woes and Unreliable Performances

If we take a close look at both teams, we can see that they both have leaky defences, with Leicester City failing to keep a clean sheet in their last 18 league games, having shipped an average of 1.3 goals per home match this term. The arrival of Dean Smith as the new manager hasn’t really brought in the solidity hoped for with the Foxes, who have managed to keep just three clean sheets on home turf in the top-flight.

If they have a chance to do so, however, it is against Everton, who not only have issues defensively but also going forward. The Toffees have managed just two clean sheets this term, with 26 goals conceded in 16 away games. Even if the arrival of Sean Dyche seems to have improved their home performance, when travelling, the problems remain. Lately, they also suffered a 4-1 defeat against Newcastle at Goodison Park, which raised concerns about their ability to handle pressure in crucial games.

The History of Head-to-Head Meetings

The first 18 Premier League meetings between Everton and Leiester have ended level 13 times, but in the remaining 15 encounters, only two matches have ended with spoils shared, so fans should probably expect a winner-take-all kind of clash at the foot of the Premier League table on Monday night. The outcome will significantly impact the relegation battle, with the losing side needing to be very close to the Championship.

Attacking Prowess Gives Leicester the Edge

As mentioned before, despite their defensive issues, Leicester have attacking talents like James Madison who can prove decisive in this crucial match. Harvey Barnes has also been impressive this season, having scored five goals in 13 home games, including goals against direct relegation battle competitors Nottingham Forest and Leeds.

But in a match that is expected to be tight and nervous given how much is at stake, I do expect a player like Maddison to be the key to unlocking what will be a compact Everton unit. There is therefore good value in backing Maddison, who has already scored nine goals this season, to find the back of the net at any time in a match that might well be decided by a single goal.

I believe Everton will try to defend deep, but I don’t see their shaky defence capable of keeping a clean sheet, and eventually the Foxes might get a crucial lead. Backing Maddison to score and Leicester to win to nil can be backed at a great 8/1 price with William Hill, which has been recently boosted from 13/2.
Foxes Did Well Against Direct Relegation Competitors

Even if Leicester do have their defensive vulnerabilities, they should be able to keep at bay an Everton side that has struggled to find goals, especially on the road. It is very likely that Sean Dyche will set the team to prioritise the defence first in what is likely to be a physical and close match between two teams that are desperate to win but even more desperate not to lose.

Everton have been poor on the road this season, with just two wins in their last 33 away league games and 21 defeats in the process, so the hosts may have the upper hand. Their recent wins against Wolves, Leeds, and Forest have shown that they do tend to handle the pressure of these bottom-of-the-table clashes pretty well, so backing them to secure a 1-0 win against the struggling Toffees looks good value.
