Gael Monfils and Rafael Nadal were the two winners of the opening week of the 2022 ATP season. Nadal showed to be in good condition, although it has to be said that he didn’t have to face an opponent ranked in the top 90. Looking at the draw, Cilic has the best opportunity here as quarter 3 is pretty weak, so it looks like a decent value. However, we don’t see market favourite Monfils to go all the way once again: his motivations might be pretty low considering that the Australian Open is just behind the corner. In a tournament where players motivation cannot be taken for granted, we believe the best choice is to be Cilic.

Over to Sydney, Aslan Karatsev is the top seed in what looks like a relatively weak event, with players of the likes of Dan Evans, Reilly Opelka and Nikoloz Basilashvili, who all received a first-round bye. So in what looks like a pretty open event, it makes sense to look for some value with unseeded players likely to make it to the latter stages.

American Brandon Nakashima seems particularly interesting. He made a top impact last season by getting into the top 50 and might be one to watch this season. So it makes sense to back him to make an impact in this tournament, considering that his draw is pretty accessible.
