Gram Dodd is firmly in the camp of Paws For Thought, a seasoned course performer who has slipped to a very attractive handicap mark. That drop has brought him back into focus, particularly as he showed plenty of spark here last week when running prominently before striking for home earlier than ideal. Despite fading late, the effort suggested his turn is close.
Few horses boast the same level of affinity with Chester’s unique layout as Paws For Thought, who consistently runs well around these tight bends. The fact he comes into this contest on a career-low figure only strengthens the case. Apprentice Charlie Maggs, taking 5lb off his back, enhances his chances further by reducing the burden even more. With several rivals either out of form or unproven at the track, Dodd is confident that Paws For Thought’s proven course craft and advantageous mark make him the one to beat. A return to front-rank tactics could see him strike once again where he has often excelled.
