One of the standout runners is Salt Rock, who has been making steady progress over fences. However, opposition such as Immortal Fame, who has been in excellent form, and Militaire, who enjoys a weight swing with Salt Rock from their previous encounter, could present significant challenges.

Nap of the Day: Salt Rock to Win – 2:05 Southwell
The most compelling selection of the day is Salt Rock in the 2:05 at Southwell. The Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls-trained seven-year-old has shown real promise since switching to fences, registering two wins from two starts over the larger obstacles. His most recent success at Doncaster saw him quicken smartly to score comfortably, reinforcing the view that he is a progressive chaser capable of handling a step up in class.
Although the 6lb rise in the handicap poses a new test, he has already demonstrated that he is improving rapidly. His previous victory over Militaire—who reopposes today—was convincing, and while the latter benefits from an 8lb pull at the weights, it may not be enough to reverse the form given the ease with which Salt Rock secured that win.
Jockey Tom Bellamy, who maintains the ride, has been in solid form, with two wins from his last 24 rides (8%). His familiarity with the horse will be an advantage, particularly as Salt Rock steps up to 2m4½f for the first time. While this represents a slight unknown, his strong finishing efforts over 2m3f last time out suggest the additional yardage should suit rather than hinder him.
