Two of Europe’s most creative midfielders. Two games. Both delivered assists exactly as we predicted — and the markets paid handsomely.
This winner came from our World Cup Assists Tips — a two-leg same-night double built around identifying the two most assist-likely creators in the Group I double-header on 22 June. Both landed. The combined price cleared at roughly 8/1.
What was the bet?
Our accumulator tips team identified Michael Olise (France) and Martin Ødegaard (Norway) as high-probability assist candidates for their respective Group I fixtures. Olise was priced at 11/10 to register an anytime assist against Iraq. Ødegaard was available at 333/100 — a shade over 3/1 — to set up a goal against Senegal. Combined into a two-leg double, the bet returned at approximately 8/1.
Both selections were profiled in our dedicated assists tips article, where we break down assist probability using our three-point creative-output model: role centrality, progressive carry rate, and touch-to-chance conversion. Here is exactly how the story unfolded.
Leg 1 — Michael Olise: Anytime Assist vs Iraq
Olise starts on the right, receives the ball in wide half-spaces, and generates the clearest assist opportunity in the France attack. With Mbappe on the opposite flank and Dembélé floating centrally, Olise is the primary creator from a wide-right position and should register at least one chance-created that leads to a goal.
Olise provided two assists — teeing up Mbappe in the 14th minute with an incisive delivery and threading a brilliant outside-of-the-boot pass to release Dembélé for France’s third on 66 minutes. He also struck the crossbar with a dink and was France’s standout creative force all night.
Assist events
-
14′
Olise → Mbappe (Goal 1) — A left-footed drive into the far corner from the edge of the area, created by Olise’s weighted delivery from the right channel.
-
66′
Olise → Dembélé (Goal 3) — A brilliant outside-of-the-foot pass unlocked the Iraq defence, allowing Dembélé to strike into the bottom corner for his first major tournament goal.
What made this selection compelling was not just Olise’s form, but his structural role in France’s attack. With Iraq lacking the defensive width to contain overlapping right-sided threats, we identified that Olise’s inside-forward positioning would create consistent entry into assist-productive zones — the type of half-space delivery that generates tap-in and near-post chances. The 14th-minute assist confirmed it within the opening quarter; the second was an elite-level execution of precisely the same pattern.
Our assists tips methodology treats role centrality as the primary filter: if a creative player is the main route between ball progression and goalscoring actions, they carry a materially elevated assist probability regardless of opposition quality.
Leg 2 — Martin Ødegaard: Anytime Assist vs Senegal
Ødegaard operates as Norway’s primary link between midfield and Haaland. His through-ball and first-touch combination with the striker is the most repeatable assist pattern in Stale Solbakken’s setup. With Senegal likely to leave space in behind on the counter, we expected Haaland to run in behind and Ødegaard to play the key pass.
Ødegaard split Senegal open with an incisive through ball in the 48th minute, sending Haaland racing clear to double Norway’s lead. Exactly the counter-attack assist pattern we anticipated — Ødegaard’s vision cutting through a stretched Senegal back line to set up Haaland’s second goal of the match.
Assist event
-
48′
Ødegaard → Haaland (Goal 2) — An incisive through ball three minutes into the second half sent Haaland in on goal. The striker finished clinically to double Norway’s lead and notch his third World Cup goal of the tournament.
The 333/100 price on Ødegaard felt generous from the outset. Norway’s entire attack revolves around getting the ball to Haaland quickly, and Ødegaard is almost exclusively the player who releases him in central areas. After a relatively quiet first half — exactly as we cautioned may happen, noting that Senegal’s press would limit early space — the counter-attacking assist arrived precisely as the game opened up post-break.
Haaland has now scored in 12 consecutive competitive matches for Norway, registering at least two goals in each of the past six. With that kind of sustained production, any bet on Ødegaard providing the assist carries embedded value that the market regularly underprices.

Assists Double FAQ
What is an anytime assist bet?
An anytime assist bet wins if the named player directly sets up a goal at any point during the 90 minutes of normal time, regardless of when in the game it occurs or the final scoreline. The player must register the final pass or touch before the goalscorer — the definition used by the sportsbook, which typically aligns with official match statistics.
It differs from a first-assist bet, which only wins if the same player sets up the opening goal of the match.
What is an assists double and how does it work?
An assists double combines exactly two anytime assist selections into a single bet, multiplying the odds of both legs together to produce a combined return. Both players must register an assist for the double to pay out — if either leg fails, the entire bet loses.
A double is the simplest form of a multi-leg bet. Combining a player at 11/10 with one at 333/100 produces a combined price of roughly 8/1 — a return that would be impossible to achieve from either leg individually.
What makes a player a strong assist double pick?
The three factors we weight most heavily are: role centrality (is the player the primary pass-before-shot in their team’s attacking structure?), progressive carry rate (how often do they advance the ball into assist-productive zones?), and touch-to-chance conversion (what share of their touches in the final third become chances). Players scoring highly across all three — like Olise or Ødegaard — are structurally likely to generate assists regardless of form fluctuations.
Avoid picks where the player is expected to score themselves, as their role may shift from provider to finisher, reducing the probability of a typical creative assist.
Does an assist count if the goal is scored after a deflection?
Most major UK sportsbooks follow the same ruling used by official statistics providers: a deflection off a defender does not invalidate the assist as long as it does not significantly change the direction of the ball. However, if the deflection is substantial enough that the goal would not have been scored without it, some books may void the assist credit for betting purposes.
Always check the specific assist rules in your sportsbook’s help section before placing, particularly for markets settled by Opta or Stats Perform data.
Do assists count in extra time for double bet purposes?
In most Group Stage and knockout World Cup fixtures, anytime assist bets are settled on 90 minutes of normal time plus any added injury-time minutes, but not extra time or penalty shootouts. Group stage matches cannot go to extra time — they end at full time — so this was not a factor in either leg of this double. For knockout fixtures, always confirm the settlement rules with your bookmaker before placing.
