Lump Sum is our free Nap of the Day in the 1:50 Sandown Betfair Henry VIII Novices’ Chase over 1m7½f, where his chasing profile looks both progressive and battle-tested. His first start over fences at Uttoxeter could hardly have been more impressive, travelling comfortably before stretching clear and putting 16 lengths between himself and Jax Junior. That form has already been strongly underlined, with Jax Junior going on to defeat the talented Jeriko Du Reponet decisively at Kempton, confirming that Lump Sum beat a solid yardstick with authority. Previously a very useful hurdler, he held his own in deep company and repeatedly shaped as a horse crying out for a crisp, accurate round of jumping to maximise his pace. Sandown’s jumping test can expose flaws, but his Uttoxeter display suggested fluency and scope rather than hesitation. Lulamba commands obvious respect, yet being a four-year-old rated 153, there is a chance today’s sharp test at this stage of the season just finds him vulnerable to a race-fit seven-year-old who already knows how to dig in late. With Dylan Johnston and Sam Thomas both operating at healthy recent strike-rates, Lump Sum appeals as the value to land this Grade 1 right now.

What Is the NAP of the Day?
The NAP is our most confident horse racing selection on today’s card. It’s a single, well-researched bet chosen from all meetings after reviewing form, pace maps, going suitability, draw bias, trainer patterns and market movement. If you want one focused racing tip, start with the NAP.
How We Choose Today’s NAP
Our analysts shortlist candidates from today’s UK meetings, then stress-test each runner against key factors: recent speed figures and sectionals, distance and going profile, running style vs. field pace, trainer/jockey form and any positive class or equipment changes. We only publish when price and probability align—no guesswork, no hype.
What You’ll See on This Page
- The Selection — horse, race time, course and advised market.
- Reasoning — clear logic covering form, pace, going and trainer angles.
- Odds Window — a fair range to play; we note if price shortens beyond value.
- Staking Guidance — sensible unit advice to manage variance.
When We Publish & Updates
We post the NAP in the morning (UK time) and update if the going changes, a key non-runner appears, or the market moves significantly. If a price collapses below our play zone, we flag it and, where appropriate, suggest an alternative approach.
Bankroll & Staking
Singles dominate our racing approach because they’re easier to price and track. Keep stakes level; avoid chasing later races to recover variance. If each-way is logical—field size, place terms and price—we’ll say so explicitly in the note.
