Both Teams To Score
Manchester United v Manchester City
Reason for tip

This Manchester derby promises goals at both ends given United's recent defensive lapses and City's high volume of shots. United's attack carries multiple threats capable of breaching City's usually solid backline, while City's relentless pressure and shot frequency suggest they will find the net despite United's efforts. The blend of offensive firepower and defensive vulnerabilities on both sides makes Both Teams To Score a compelling angle at decent odds.

Sunday afternoon begins in Manchester and runs all the way through to a La Liga fixture under the lights at Anoeta. Three leagues, four contrasting angles. The Manchester derby opens proceedings with a specific tension already clear from the opening weeks — one side has been scoring freely but conceding more than their attacking return deserves. Two La Liga fixtures frame the evening: one in Getafe where a visiting team has been converting their chances with unusual efficiency, the other a match between two clubs who have each produced goals freely while leaving their own defences somewhat exposed. Portugal’s Primeira Liga sits between them, a meeting between a team whose home record has become a genuine platform and an opponent that has yet to lose in five league matches. Four markets. Here is what the evidence says.

Sunday’s Four-Fold Accumulator Selections

Manchester United vs Manchester City

United’s opening three Premier League matches have produced seven goals scored and six conceded, with the defence shipping exactly two in each game regardless of result. A 2-0 defeat at Hull, a 5-2 win over Ipswich and a 2-2 draw at Everton tell different stories about outcomes but the same one about defensive reliability. Carrick’s side average 2.0 goals per match across their last 10 league games from 17.2 attempts and 5.7 shots on target, with Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes each scoring four times and Fernandes supplying six assists. Several routes to goal exist at Old Trafford.

City’s visit represents a sharper test than anything United have faced in the league this term. Three Premier League wins, seven goals scored, two conceded — and their 10-game league average of 18.0 attempts and 5.9 shots on target suggests sustained pressure rather than isolated bursts. Erling Haaland has eight goals in his last 10 league matches and eight in seven appearances against United; his Champions League brace at Porto brought him to 42 goals in 39 group-stage or league-phase games. Enzo Fernandez supplied Haaland’s opener in that Porto win, suggesting City arrive with creativity alongside the finishing.

City’s defensive numbers across their last 10 league matches — 0.9 goals conceded from 9.0 opposition attempts — represent the strongest argument against this selection. If United cannot convert their volume, that record offers grounds for a clean sheet. Against that, Carrick has won nine of his 10 Premier League home matches in his second spell, and United beat City 2-0 in their last meeting at Old Trafford. United’s consistent goal output in recent weeks and City’s own attacking figures make it difficult to argue either side will be completely shut out.

Best bet: Both Teams To Score YES @ 4/9

Getafe vs Deportivo La Coruña

The most striking aspect of Deportivo’s opening four La Liga matches is not simply their goal tally but how they have achieved it. Eight goals from four games, consecutive wins over Valencia and Villarreal, and a possession figure of only 38% in that Villarreal victory suggest Deportivo are converting their opportunities with economy rather than territorial control. Across their last 10 league games, they have averaged 10.4 attempts and 4.5 shots on target, producing 1.7 goals per match. Getafe, from a broadly similar shot volume of 9.3 attempts, have managed only 0.6 goals per game across the same period. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has four goals and two assists from four league appearances; Luismi Cruz has five assists across the wider 10-game sample and Bil Nsongo has scored three times. Deportivo’s attack is sufficiently spread that no single absence resolves the threat.

That efficiency meets a Getafe defence already short of options. Zaid Romero is suspended following his red card against Celta Vigo, while Juanmi, Abdel Abqar, Francho and Christantus Uche are all injured. Opponents have averaged four shots on target per game against José Bordalás’s side across their last 10 league matches, and Deportivo are producing 4.5 — a mismatch the visitors are well placed to exploit.

Getafe’s own scoring record is the most honest challenge to this selection. Two league goals in four matches from 2.0 shots on target per game is a thin base, and their 1-1 draw with Celta involved only 30% possession and two efforts on target. However, both home fixtures have produced goals — the 1-0 win over Racing de Santander and that Celta draw — and Enes Unal’s three goals from six appearances alongside Satriano’s strike against Celta indicates the hosts retain realistic scoring capability even at limited volume.

Best bet: Both Teams To Score YES @ 6/5

Arouca vs Santa Clara

Arouca have made Estádio Municipal de Arouca a genuinely difficult place to visit. Vasco Seabra’s side are unbeaten in six home league games, have won the last three, and have conceded only three league goals all season, keeping clean sheets against Vitoria de Guimaraes, Moreirense and Estoril. Across their last 10 league matches, opponents have averaged 13.5 attempts per game against them, yet only 0.9 goals have gone in on average. That gap between volume and outcome is Arouca’s clearest strength.

Santa Clara have been among the Primeira Liga’s most productive early-season sides. Nine goals across five unbeaten matches came from multiple contributors — the 4-0 win over Rio Ave saw Brenner, Tiago Ribeiro, Vinicius and Luis Fernando all reach the scoresheet — and Goncalo Paciencia has four league goals this season, even though he failed to score in his last two appearances and instead created a goal against Rio Ave. Brenner has scored in consecutive games. Petit’s side also carry defensive substance, with opponents managing 2.9 shots on target and 0.7 goals per game across their last 10 league matches. Ivan Barbero provides Arouca’s central attacking reference, with four goals in his last 10 league games and three from five this season.

Santa Clara’s long-term away record introduces fair caution. Three victories from their last 19 top-flight away fixtures is the figure that deserves acknowledgement, even if a 1-0 win at Academico de Viseu and a 1-1 draw at Alverca suggest some recent improvement. Arouca’s record against this specific opponent is also notable — no win in three meetings, with two draws and a defeat and the most recent match at this ground finishing 2-2. But Santa Clara have scored in every league match this season, and Arouca’s record of finding the net in three of five, including the 2-1 home win over Maritimo, gives both sides a viable route to goal.

Best bet: Both Teams To Score YES @ 1/1

Real Sociedad vs Atletico Madrid

Two defeats in five days shifted the mood around Atletico considerably before this fixture. A 3-0 loss at Athletic Bilbao gave way to a 2-1 Champions League defeat to Liverpool despite Marcos Llorente having put Simeone’s side ahead, conceding five goals across those two games after seven from the opening three La Liga matches. Real Sociedad have moved in the other direction. Two early defeats to Real Betis and Real Madrid have been followed by wins over Espanyol and Elche, with a goalless draw against Celta Vigo in between — seven points from five matches for Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side.

The statistical case for three or more goals runs through two distinct and converging patterns. Seven of Sociedad’s last 10 home league games have produced at least three goals. Each of Atletico’s last four away league fixtures has reached the same mark. Sociedad have conceded 1.7 goals per match from 16.8 opposition attempts and 6.2 shots on target across their last 10 league games, and Atletico’s 10-game average of 13.9 attempts and 4.6 shots on target connects directly to that vulnerability. Atletico have allowed 14 opposition attempts per game and conceded 1.5 goals on average across that sample, while Lookman, Baena and Sorloth each have three goals in the last 10 league matches. Sociedad’s 3-2 win at Elche was a concrete demonstration of their attacking capability — three goals from seven shots on target despite 42% possession, with Ochieng, Herrera and Sucic all scoring.

The goalless draw with Celta remains the most relevant counter-signal, showing that Sociedad can produce a low-volume game when space is restricted. Jon Martin’s suspension following his red card at Elche removes a defensive option, while Alvaro Odriozola is absent with a knee injury and Sorloth remains doubtful. But across their respective 10-game league samples, neither defence has been consistent enough to make a sub-three-goal total the more probable outcome. The weight of both clubs’ recent patterns points clearly towards a scoring evening.

Best bet: Over 2.5 Goals @ 8/13
