Racing TV Sky Channel 424 EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (Bands C/D) (GBB/IRE Incentive Race) (Div I)

 Winner £3,725, 2nd £1,749, 3rd £875, 4th £437

 2yo, 10 Runners

 Flat,Turf , 5f 3y , GOOD (GoingStick: 7.4) (Watering) (Rail movements: 3.35, 4.05 & 4.35 +2yds)

1. Ardisia (Best odds: 5/6 with bet365)

The Hugo Palmer-trained filly showed plenty of natural pace on debut, readily asserting close home to win comfortably. Jason Hart retains the ride, and she’s entitled to progress further now. She sets the standard on what we’ve seen and looks a serious player again.

Tip: Well-bred and made a strong impression first time out; entitled to improve further.

2. Believeinthisone (Best odds: 12/1 with Unibet)

Showed flashes of raw ability when introduced to the track, and though green, there was enough encouragement to suggest a step forward is likely. David Loughnane’s charge could find a place with normal improvement.

Tip: May surprise a few if settling early; not ruled out for minor money.

3. Supreme Dancer (Best odds: 9/2 with BetVictor)

Richard Fahey’s colt is highly regarded at home and should come on for a promising debut. With Oisin Orr in the plate, connections will be hopeful he can build on that and press for honours.

Tip: Open to significant improvement; looks one of the main dangers to the favourite.

4. Archibald Ives (Best odds: 13/2 with bet365)

Showed potential in his only start despite not troubling the leaders. Darryll Holland’s colt is well related and could take a big step forward if handling the course’s demands.

Tip: Type to progress on second appearance; each-way claims.

5. Call Me By My Name (NR)

Non-runner.

6. Harome Star (Best odds: 66/1 with Unibet)

Exhibited little to recommend when last seen and looks up against it based on what we’ve seen from the others. Significant improvement would be required to figure here.

Tip: Others look far more convincing on paper.

7. Tamather (Best odds: 5/1 with bet365)

Ran with promise on debut despite not quite seeing out the final furlong strongly. James Owen’s youngster should strip fitter for that outing and is open to progression.

Tip: Capable of better; merits respect in this field.

8. Ubetterseethis (Best odds: 25/1 with BetVictor)

Still very green and never looked like landing a blow on debut. Will need to improve sharply to be involved, though the booking of 5lb claimer William Pyle could help.

Tip: Outsider with work to do; best watched unless supported in the market.

9. Zoumluzzi (Best odds: 20/1 with bet365)

Tim Easterby’s runner was well held on debut and needs to find a considerable amount to challenge. Has scope for progress but may need further down the line.

Tip: Hard to make a solid case based on debut effort.

10. Awraad (Best odds: 10/1 with Unibet)

This one caught the eye in the paddock and moved nicely despite finishing in mid-division on debut. With that experience under his belt, a bold step forward wouldn’t surprise.

Tip: One for the shortlist; could sneak into the places.

Verdict

Ardisia sets a strong benchmark after a commanding debut and looks likely to take all the beating here. However, Supreme Dancer could pose a real threat with natural progression, while Tamather also holds each-way claims with the benefit of race fitness. Awraad is another who may improve and should not be dismissed lightly for place purposes.

Pontefract 14:35

Sky Bet For The Fans Handicap

 Winner £10,991, 2nd £5,158, 3rd £2,577, 4th £1,289, 5th £643

 3yo+, 13 Runners

Flat,Turf , 1m 6y , GOOD TO FIRM, Good in places (GoingStick 8.1) (Watering to maintain)

1. Dacres Cross (Best odds: 11/4 with bet365)

Kevin Ryan’s colt shaped with real purpose on his debut and should come on plenty for that experience. Tom Eaves is a positive booking and he looks sure to be in the mix again based on that initial effort.

Tip: Eye-catching first run and looks a serious contender if stepping forward.

2. Go Victor (Best odds: 14/1 with BetVictor)

Showed signs of immaturity when introduced to racing but has been given a bit of time to learn. Hollie Doyle’s presence in the saddle is encouraging, and any improvement from that debut could bring her into the frame.

Tip: Needs to progress but not one to completely dismiss given jockey engagement.

3. Bravo Hotel (Best odds: 12/1 with Unibet)

Ran with some promise at the first attempt, though still a bit rough around the edges. Trained by the Easterby partnership, who have a good record with juveniles at this venue, he’s one who could run better than his odds suggest.

Tip: Not out of it if he tidies up on debut greenness.

4. Haberdash (Best odds: 4/1 with bet365)

Caught the eye with a smartly run debut and shaped like a colt who’ll relish this slightly stiffer finish. Edward Bethell’s team are in fair form and this one has the physique to develop into a nice type.

Tip: Very much one to keep an eye on; likely to go close with expected progression.

5. Ice Cold Alex (Best odds: 25/1 with BetVictor)

Looked one-paced on first outing and may need a bit more time to sharpen up. Drawn low, which can help if he jumps smartly, but others appear more forward at this stage.

Tip: Needs to show more than on debut; watching brief preferred.

6. Monty Magoo (Best odds: 20/1 with Unibet)

Didn’t feature when introduced to racing, though this second run could see a different showing with fitness and experience now in his favour. Slightly overlooked in the market but not hopeless.

Tip: Could show a bit more this time; not one to completely ignore.

7. Under The Radar (Best odds: 10/1 with bet365)

Tim Easterby’s charge was somewhat anonymous on his first go, though it wouldn’t be surprising if he left that effort behind him. David Allan continues in the saddle, and he’s one for each-way consideration.

Tip: Not without a chance if bouncing back with a sharper performance.

8. U Turn (Best odds: 14/1 with BetVictor)

Another from the Easterby yard, this colt didn’t make a major impact on his initial appearance but has scope to learn from the experience. Sean Kirrane takes over in the saddle, which might coax improvement.

Tip: Still learning; needs to do more but wouldn’t be a shock if he placed.

9. Saucy Jane (Best odds: 15/8 with bet365)

At the top of the market, this filly represents a lesser-known stable but is highly regarded based on her pre-race reputation. With Daniel Muscutt on board and a draw that could favour her early dash, she commands attention.

Tip: Well-supported and expected to make a bold bid; clear player.

Verdict

Dacres Cross appears poised to make a solid impact after showing plenty of early ability last time out, and he could improve past the favourite. Haberdash is an exciting prospect and should also be in the thick of things with a clean break. Saucy Jane clearly brings solid market confidence, but may be worth opposing at the price if others take a leap forward.

 Winner £42,015, 2nd £15,998, 3rd £8,010, 4th £3,998, 5th £2,003, 6th £1,005, 7th £503, 8th £248

 3yo+, 9 Runners

Flat,Turf , 6f , GOOD TO FIRM, Good in places (GoingStick 8.1) (Watering to maintain)

1. Coverbridge (Best odds: 14/1 with Unibet)

Peter Winks’ gelding has been gradually slipping down the ratings and finds himself entering a more realistic level now. Ethan Jones claims 5lb and should help ease the burden in a field lacking standout depth.

Tip: May find this company more suitable; each-way squeak at a decent price.

2. Tequila Rose (Best odds: 12/1 with BetVictor)

Hollie Doyle takes over on this filly who failed to land a blow in her juvenile season. She now enters handicap ranks and could show a different side now upped to six furlongs.

Tip: Unexposed at this trip; potential to show more in this grade.

3. Piranha Rama (NR)

Non-runner.

4. Rumba Bay (Best odds: 9/4 with bet365)

Has thrived since entering handicaps, notching up two wins from three recent starts. David Evans has her in fine heart, and Richard Kingscote retains the ride. Another bold bid looks likely if she breaks well again.

Tip: Form horse of the race; clear chance of landing a hat-trick.

5. Mister Sky Blue (Best odds: 10/1 with Unibet)

Ran respectably in similar company and might come on for that seasonal pipe-opener. Trainer Gemma Tutty’s yard is capable of improving runners in handicaps.

Tip: Could spring a surprise if building on recent outing.

6. Ballsgrove Boy (Best odds: 4/1 with BetVictor)

Runner-up twice this year, this consistent type has shown enough to suggest a breakthrough win may not be far off. Marco Ghiani takes over and he’s capable of riding a well-judged race from a good mid-pack draw.

Tip: Knocking on the door; major contender if things fall his way.

7. Focus On Zaam (Best odds: 25/1 with bet365)

Rarely threatens, and form figures leave him with plenty to prove. Needs a career-best to feature, but Elle-May Croot’s claim lightens the load.

Tip: Big outsider; needs marked improvement to feature.

8. Bad Habits (Best odds: 33/1 with Unibet)

Tried various trips but remains winless and generally struggles to land a blow. Will likely be up against it again unless connections have found the key to unlock some hidden ability.

Tip: Difficult to support on current evidence.

9. Sanbona (Best odds: 33/1 with bet365)

Returned this season with a modest showing and hasn’t suggested readiness to compete at this level yet. Visor stays on, but it’ll take a leap of faith to get involved.

Tip: Little to recommend based on latest effort.

10. Perfidia (Best odds: 9/1 with BetVictor)

Flashed ability at the tail end of last season and now reappears off a manageable mark. David Allan keeps the partnership intact, and this drop into a Class 6 could make a difference.

Tip: Capable of better than recent figures; lively outside chance.

11. Kilteel (NR)

Non-runner.

12. City Captain (Best odds: 7/2 with bet365)

Showed improved consistency late last term and appeals as one still on the upgrade. With a good draw and Joanna Mason’s positive record at the course, he’s one to take seriously.

Tip: Has conditions to suit and likely to go well with a clear run.

13. Ardilly Breeze (Best odds: 12/1 with Unibet)

Hasn’t quite fired so far but showed more zip last time out. Gemma Tutty’s second runner in this could be primed for a better display stepping back into handicap company.

Tip: Signs of encouragement last time; may be one for a place at odds.

14. I Got Know How (Best odds: 16/1 with bet365)

Failed to threaten in three starts to date, but now tries handicaps for the first time. Jason Hart rides, and his booking might be a hint of stable confidence.

Tip: Handicap debutant with scope; needs monitoring in the market.

Verdict

City Captain is fancied to land his first success now back from a break with more experience under his belt and a helpful draw. Ballsgrove Boy continues to run solid races and will surely be in the shake-up again. Perfidia looks a value play with some encouraging signs from last year and could sneak into the frame at decent odds.

Alcazan – 3/1 (Unibet)
Coming off a solid third-place finish last time out, Alcazan is reliable and consistent at this distance. She’s likely to be competitive again in this company. Back Alcazan at Unibet

May Blossom – 12/1 (Betvictor)
This five-year-old mare can be a tricky customer, but she’s capable of landing a big run if everything falls into place. A decent each-way shot in this field. Back May Blossom at Betvictor

Verdict

Sophia’s Starlight heads into the race with solid form and looks capable of following up her Newmarket win. The Eyes Have It could also be a major player, while Alcazan and Tropical Island are both credible threats.

Rajinsky – 15/2 (Unibet)
Although Rajinsky was well beaten last time, he’s capable of bouncing back and has some solid form from earlier in the year. His odds could provide value for an each-way play. Back Rajinsky at Unibet

Wise Eagle – 11/4 (Bet365)
Wise Eagle, the 2022 winner of this race, has had some tough assignments recently but could return to form on this more familiar ground. He’s certainly one to watch here. Back Wise Eagle at Bet365

Oxford Comma – 7/4 (Bet365)
After two wins earlier in the season, Oxford Comma failed to fire in the Park Hill Stakes, but he remains a talented three-year-old with potential to bounce back in this race. Back Oxford Comma at Bet365

Verdict

Kyle Of Lochalsh is the one to beat given his strong form over staying distances this season. However, Wise Eagle, last year’s winner, is also a solid contender and could pose a serious threat. Oxford Comma could bounce back to form, and Rajinsky offers some each-way value at a bigger price.

Magnetic North – 33/1 (Unibet)
Though Magnetic North has struggled in his last two runs, the drop in trip could see a better performance. At his current odds, he’s worth an outside chance. Back Magnetic North at Unibet

Verdict

Inappropriate is on a roll with consecutive wins, and there’s no reason why he can’t make it three in a row. However, Shamran looks dangerous after breaking his maiden last time out, and Austrian Theory is a value pick on this ground. For a longer shot, Magnetic North could offer some big each-way value now dropping in trip.
