Over 2.5 Goals
Aarhus v Viborg
This Superliga clash promises an open contest given the attacking profiles and recent form of both sides. Viborg, sitting third, bring a potent offense averaging 1.6 goals per game and exert more attacking pressure with higher shot and corner counts. Aarhus, despite a lower league position, have shown a willingness to engage offensively and their matches with Viborg have historically been high-scoring, averaging 3.5 goals over their last 10 meetings. With both teams capable of scoring and conceding, the Over 2.5 Goals market appeals as the fixture should open up, reflecting the attacking intent and defensive vulnerabilities on display.

Four leagues. Four fixtures. All on Sunday. The Premier League’s defining early-season clash sits alongside an Italian mismatch of expectations, a Brazilian derby at the Maracanã, and a promotion contest in Goiânia where home and away records have told very different stories.
None of the four selections here have been constructed around the marquee billing of a fixture. Each rests on a specific argument: the sheer volume of goals Enzo Maresca’s side carry into any game, the defensive structure quietly built by Juventus across their European campaign, the consistent home-away divide that defines the Série B encounter in the east of Brazil, and the accumulated weight of Flamengo’s league season standing against a rival arriving in form but facing a side operating at a higher level.
Four very different arguments for one accumulator.

Sunday’s Four-Fold Accumulator Selections
Liverpool v Manchester City
The goals case here starts with Manchester City’s Premier League record and runs through Erling Haaland. City have scored 13 goals in their five opening league matches — an average of 2.6 per game — and that output has not softened against tougher opposition. The 5-3 victory over Sunderland before the international break was the most revealing performance: City produced multi-goal attacking football while simultaneously conceding three times. Brian Brobbey’s hat-trick demonstrated that Maresca’s side are not immune to a team that can finish. Liverpool, even in a depleted state, will create opportunities.
Haaland is the central variable. Seven goals across his last five Manchester City appearances, scoring in every one of them — and a record of seven goals from nine previous meetings with Liverpool specifically — makes him the most reliable source of goals in the fixture. If City score, he is the most likely route to the goal. Liverpool’s defence has improved markedly, conceding just once across five league matches and keeping three clean sheets, but that improvement has been tested against opponents well below City’s level of consistent attacking output.
The genuine complication is Liverpool’s forward line. Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Hugo Ekitike are all absent through injury, which could limit the hosts’ ability to respond to City goals with any volume. If Liverpool struggle to find the net, Over 2.5 Goals becomes dependent on City scoring three or more — which, based on their recent form, is not improbable, but adds a layer of uncertainty. Liverpool’s eight goals across their last five fixtures, even with those absences factored in, suggests they retain enough attacking resource to contribute to a high-scoring game. Two goals from City and one from Liverpool is a plausible and well-supported route to success here.
Best bet: Over 2.5 Goals
Cagliari v Juventus
The most straightforward case for Juventus at the Sardegna Arena is not their attacking potential — it is what the most recent weeks have revealed defensively. Four clean sheets in six competitive fixtures, the lowest shot volume conceded by any Serie A side through five rounds, and back-to-back victories before the international break: 5-0 against NEC Nijmegen in the Europa League, followed by a 2-0 league win over Atalanta. Crucially, that Atalanta scalp came against the same side Cagliari had themselves defeated en route to their impressive start.
The matchup against Cagliari introduces a specific tension. Fabio Pisacane’s side have been one of the genuine surprises of the early Serie A season — fourth with 12 points, four wins from five, and the division’s strongest defensive record having conceded just twice. Daniel Maldini scored in three consecutive league appearances before the break, and Cagliari won this exact fixture 1-0 last season. Juventus also arrive with six players unavailable, including Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram, which restricts Spalletti’s ability to control the midfield or influence the game from the bench.
The honest caveat in Cagliari’s defensive record is worth examining. Despite conceding only twice, they have faced more shots than 18 other Serie A clubs — a statistic that points towards resilience and opposition wastefulness rather than pure defensive control. Randal Kolo Muani has yet to score a Serie A goal since returning to Turin despite 11 shots across five starts, which raises real questions about Juventus’s finishing. That is a legitimate risk. However, a Juventus side that has restricted opponents to the division’s lowest shot volume and scored eight league goals carries enough threat to expose a Cagliari defence that opponents have repeatedly tested. A narrow away win, hard-fought and defensively cautious, reflects the evidence more closely than the table positions alone might suggest.
Best bet: Juventus to win
Atlético Goianiense v Sport Recife
Strip away the Série B table — where Atlético sit sixth on 52 points and Sport eighth on 50, separated by barely anything — and the distinction between these two sides becomes stark very quickly. Atlético Goianiense have won four consecutive home matches and seven of their last ten at their own ground. Sport Recife have lost seven of their last ten on the road and four of their last five away from home.
That contrast is the selection. The H2H record reinforces it — Atlético have not lost to Sport in their past three meetings, with the most recent encounter ending 1-1. Twelve home wins from their last twenty at this ground reflects not a run of form but a consistent pattern across a significant sample.
The counterpoint sits in their respective recent results. Atlético’s last game was a 3-1 defeat away to CRB, ending a run of home momentum with a sobering road performance. Sport arrive on the back of two consecutive wins, including a 2-1 home triumph over Sao Bernardo. A visiting side in confidence can always disrupt the home advantage argument. The mitigating factor is that Sport’s two-match winning streak came at home, where their record is far stronger than it is on the road. Their travelling difficulties this season are not a small sample or a blip — seven defeats in ten away games represents a genuine, consistent vulnerability.
Atlético at home, against an opponent that has struggled to win away from their own ground all season, remains a well-grounded selection.
Best bet: Atlético Goianiense to win
Flamengo v Fluminense
Flamengo lead the Série A table with 61 points from 29 matches — 18 wins and 57 goals scored, a goal difference of +32. In their last ten league fixtures they have won seven, lost once and drawn twice, averaging 2.1 goals per game from 17.1 attempts. That is the foundation. Derby occasions introduce their own dynamics, but they do not erase six months of accumulated superiority.
The most recent Flamengo league game was a 2-2 draw away to Santos, which is worth acknowledging. With 55% possession and six shots on target, goals from Danilo and Lucas Paquetá, yet finishing level against opponents they would ordinarily be expected to beat — it confirms that Leonardo Jardim’s side are not immune to dropping points. The Maracanã changes the equation significantly, however, and Flamengo’s home record throughout the season has been their most dependable platform.
Fluminense are not arriving in poor form. Their 4-0 win over Coritiba, which included a hat-trick from Jefferson Savarino and a goal from Luciano Acosta, gave them back-to-back victories and maintained their position in third place on 51 points. Hulk leads their last-ten scoring charts with six goals and 1.9 per game reflects a team capable of finding the net consistently. The H2H picture is not entirely one-sided either — three Fluminense wins from the previous ten meetings sit alongside Flamengo’s four.
What pulls the selection towards the hosts is the scale of the gap. Flamengo’s goal difference of +32 compared to Fluminense’s +12 reflects a team operating at a meaningfully higher level across the season. The most recent H2H ended 2-1 to Flamengo, and a league leader at home in a fixture they have dominated across the full campaign represents a coherent case.
Best bet: Flamengo to win
