Feyenoord to win
Telstar v Feyenoord
Feyenoord head to Telstar as clear favourites, sitting top of the Eredivisie with a potent attack averaging 3.8 goals per game. Despite Telstar's home advantage and defensive resilience, their struggles in front of goal and lower league position suggest they’ll find it tough to contain Feyenoord’s firepower. Recent form heavily favours the visitors, who have been prolific and consistent, while Telstar are under pressure to improve. This gulf in quality and momentum supports backing Feyenoord to secure the win, even if the match may feature some resistance from the hosts.

Saturday’s Expert Accumulator covers a lot of ground. It starts in IJmuiden, takes in Subaru Park in Chester and the Showgrounds in Sligo, and finishes at the Estádio Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro. The Eredivisie is only nine rounds old, while the League of Ireland and Brazil’s Serie A are far enough into their seasons for long-running trends to carry genuine weight.
None of the four selections rests on reputation. Each has been built from what these teams have been doing over recent weeks, and in two cases from patterns that stretch back across most of a season. Each also comes with at least one awkward detail, which has been weighed here rather than buried.
An accumulator multiplies the risk as well as the potential return, so the aim is not to oversell four opinions. It is to explain each one properly, one fixture at a time.
Telstar vs Feyenoord
Feyenoord’s 27 league goals are the most in the Eredivisie, but the more telling detail is how widely they are shared. Gjivai Zechiel, Anis Hadj Moussa and Nacho Ferri have five apiece, with Luciano Valente on four, so Ayase Ueda’s departure in late August has left no obvious hole. Since the 5-1 defeat at Barcelona, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have won four in a row, including the victory that ended AZ Alkmaar’s 13-match unbeaten league run.
Telstar’s scoring tells the opposite story. Only two of their players have scored more than once this season, and one of them is the goalkeeper, Ronald Koeman Jr. The bigger problem is at the back. Henk Brugge’s side are winless in four home games and have conceded 11 in them, losing 3-1 to Sparta Rotterdam and 4-0 to Ajax before drawing 2-2 with promoted Cambuur and ten-man ADO Den Haag.
The case against is real enough. Feyenoord beat Como 3-2 in Europe on Wednesday and still have seven players unavailable. Telstar have a fully fit squad and have scored twice in each of their last two home games, with Tyrone Owusu’s brace against ADO his first goals of the campaign. Even so, Feyenoord have won their last four away from home, and a defence that has shipped 11 in four home matches looks poorly equipped when the goals can come from any of four players.

Philadelphia Union vs Charlotte
Eight straight league wins would make most teams favourites at home. What gives Philadelphia Union’s run more weight is the scoring behind it. They have averaged 3.6 goals per game across their last five and kept the sequence going with a 3-1 win at Chicago Fire on 15 October, with Milan Iloski’s 18 goals giving the attack a clear focal point. All ten of their league defeats this season came before the current ten-game unbeaten run, so the overall record undersells where they are now.
Charlotte arrive in less convincing shape. They lost 3-1 to Columbus Crew on 14 October, have conceded in each of their last five and have let in two a game over that spell, with five players injured. Philadelphia have led at half-time in each of their last three home league games, so the visitors could spend much of the match chasing it.
The counter-argument deserves a fair hearing. Charlotte are fifth, one place above their hosts, with 13 wins to Philadelphia’s 12. The head-to-head is awkward too, with two wins and three defeats in the last five meetings and only 0.8 goals per game scored. Yet the Union have lost just one of their last five home meetings with Charlotte, and a defence without a clean sheet in five gives a side in this form a clear opportunity to make it nine in a row.
Best bet: Philadelphia Union to win
Sligo Rovers vs Dundalk
Two defences, rather than two attacks, carry this selection. Across their last ten league matches, Sligo Rovers have conceded 2.2 goals per game while allowing opponents 18.8 attempts and 6.5 shots on target. Dundalk have let in 2.1 per game over their own last ten. The season totals point the same way. Dundalk’s 33 league matches have produced 105 goals, and Sligo have conceded 59 in the same number of games.
Dundalk’s attacking numbers make Sligo’s defensive ones look worse. Dundalk average 15.6 attempts and 3.7 shots on target per game, and they now face a side who give up more than that on both counts. Daryl Horgan, who has five goals, is in their predicted line-up. Sligo, meanwhile, were beaten 5-1 at Shelbourne last time out and have now lost five in a row.
The obvious weakness is Sligo’s own scoring. They average 0.7 goals per game from 2.5 shots on target, and Cian Kavanagh, their top scorer with five, does not appear in the predicted starting XI. The last meeting between the clubs also finished 1-1 at Oriel Park. Even so, Dundalk have conceded more than they have scored over their last ten, and a fixture between two sides leaking goals at this rate does not need much from Sligo’s attack for a third goal to arrive.
Best bet: Over 2.5 Goals
Botafogo vs Chapecoense
This is less a vote of confidence in Botafogo than a verdict on Chapecoense. The visitors are 20th with three league wins all season, have failed to win 26 of their last 28 Serie A matches and arrive off a 4-1 defeat at Athletico PR. They have also conceded in each of their last 20 away games, the last 15 of them in the league.
For a side averaging one goal per game, losing Marcinho is a significant blow. Chapecoense’s top scorer is suspended after a third yellow card, and he scored both goals in the 2-1 comeback win at Corinthians earlier in the campaign. Camilo is a doubt with physical discomfort. Botafogo, for their part, won 2-0 when the sides met in May and have conceded just 0.6 goals per game across the last five meetings, winning three of them.
The worry is Botafogo themselves. Tite’s side have won one of their last five, are three games without a victory and have trailed at half-time in seven of their last 11 matches. The half-time numbers cut both ways, though. Chapecoense have not led at the interval in 27 of their last 29 Serie A games, so Botafogo’s slow starts may prove less costly here than elsewhere. Against a side who concede away from home as routinely as this, Botafogo have a clear chance to end their three-game wait for a win.
Best bet: Botafogo to win
