Over 2.5 Goals
CF Montreal v Nashville SC
Nashville SC’s potent attack, averaging nearly three goals per game, faces a CF Montreal defence that concedes almost two goals per match, setting the stage for a high-scoring encounter. While their recent head-to-heads have averaged around two goals, Montreal’s defensive struggles combined with Nashville’s clinical finishing and territorial dominance suggest this game could surpass 2.5 goals. Nashville’s ability to control possession and create numerous chances, alongside Montreal’s vulnerability at the back, supports the appeal of the over 2.5 goals line at a fair price of 1.6.

Saturday brings football from four different competitions across three continents, and the range of contexts is unusually wide. A Supporters’ Shield decider in MLS, a La Liga charge from a side seeking to close the gap on Barcelona, and two Brazilian fixtures involving teams at starkly different stages of their respective seasons have each been studied closely to produce four evidence-based selections. None of them leans on reputation, and none depends on the others. Each stands on its own supply of recent results, statistical trends and context that, taken together, makes the selection coherent. What follows is the case for each, fixture by fixture.
CF Montréal vs Nashville SC
Nashville arrive at Stade Saputo with something specific at stake. A win would secure the MLS Supporters’ Shield — awarded to the side with the best regular-season record — and they bring the numbers to make a serious attempt at it. Four wins in their last five matches, 14 goals scored across that run and an average of 2.8 per game: the visitors have been finishing the regular season at a high level. Their defensive record over the same period, just 0.4 goals conceded per game, confirms the balance of what Nashville have been doing well.
Montréal’s defensive record makes it difficult to see how they contain such opponents. They have conceded in each of their last 18 matches, including 15 consecutive MLS games without a clean sheet. Their season average of 2.0 goals conceded per league match establishes this as a persistent pattern rather than a brief dip. In the last five head-to-head meetings between the clubs, Montréal have averaged just 0.4 goals scored against Nashville — a figure that sets their attacking threat in realistic context when placed alongside a visitor averaging 2.8 per game.
The second-half scoring records for both sides reinforce the case for a higher-scoring game. At least one goal after the break has appeared in 25 of Montréal’s last 27 matches overall, and in 19 of Nashville’s last 21. The counterpoint is Nashville’s most recent result — a 1-1 draw with San Jose — which shows their recent run is not entirely unblemished. One draw during a dominant spell does not, however, undermine the weight of what the broader evidence shows. Nashville’s motivation, their scoring rate and Montréal’s consistent inability to keep goals out make a three-goal game the most reasonable expectation here.

Atletico Madrid vs Deportivo La Coruna
Five consecutive La Liga victories do not need much editorial embellishment. Wins over Real Sociedad, Osasuna, Real Madrid, Alaves and Espanyol have taken Atletico to 22 points from nine matches, placing them second in the table and five points behind Barcelona. Julian Alvarez scored in midweek against Stuttgart in the Champions League, and Lee Kang-in has returned from a thigh complaint to strengthen Simeone’s options further.
Deportivo have not won in any of their last five La Liga matches and travel without their most effective forward. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has scored five times for the club this season, remains sidelined alongside Zakaria Eddahchouri, Marc Casado and Bright Ede. Noe Carrillo is also a doubt. Bil Nsongo is expected to lead the line in Aubameyang’s absence. That combination — a five-match winless run and four key players unavailable, including their five-goal top scorer — makes it difficult to argue for Deportivo disrupting a side in the form Atletico currently hold. They drew 1-1 with Levante most recently, which keeps their season record reasonable, but five games without a win is five games without a win.
Atletico’s historical record against Deportivo adds weight without guaranteeing anything. They have won five of the last six meetings, and their last defeat to the visitors in any competition came in November 2009. Deportivo’s last away league win at Atletico arrived in November 1999. The one credible concern for Atletico backers is fatigue: Tuesday’s trip to Stuttgart for a 1-1 Champions League draw means consecutive competitive fixtures with a European journey in between. Five La Liga wins from five before that midweek game, though, suggests the domestic rhythm is solid enough to hold.
Best bet: Atletico Madrid to win
Ponte Preta vs Fortaleza EC
Fortaleza have won each of their last five away fixtures in Série B, a run that reflects where they sit in the league rather than working against it. Fourth in the table with 60 points from 34 games and a record of 16 wins, 12 draws and six defeats, they travel to Ponte Preta with the consistency of a side that has earned its position over the course of the season.
Ponte Preta are bottom. Three wins, five draws and 26 defeats across 34 games gives them 14 points and a goal difference of minus 55. They have conceded 74 goals in those 34 matches — an average of more than two per fixture — and that scale of defensive difficulty makes it hard to see where they find something against a Fortaleza side arriving on five straight away wins. Eight of Ponte Preta’s last ten matches have ended without both teams scoring, and four of their last five at home have done the same. That points toward Fortaleza managing a clean sheet as a realistic possibility, not merely a hopeful one. The most recent head-to-head meeting ended 2-0 to Fortaleza.
The only realistic counterpoint is that home advantage and necessity can occasionally produce something in matches where the table suggests otherwise. Ponte Preta have drawn five times this season, which shows they are occasionally capable of making a game competitive. But Fortaleza’s five consecutive away victories are built on a Série B campaign of genuine consistency, and the hosts’ 26 defeats do not represent a run that is likely to end against this particular visitor.
Best bet: Fortaleza EC to win
Vasco da Gama vs Corinthians
Corinthians have not won a Serie A match in ten attempts. Four defeats from their last five games, with an average of 2.2 goals conceded across that run against a season figure of 1.3, suggests the recent slide is more concerning than the broader numbers imply. Manager Clarence Seedorf took charge from Fernando Diniz only weeks ago, and the visitors are also without Kayke, Labyad, Raniele and Depay through injury. That is a significant list of unavailable players for a side already struggling to win.
Vasco offer better recent form and the benefit of playing at home. Under Pedro Emanuel, they have recorded five wins, two draws and three defeats across their last ten matches. Corinthians have been behind at half-time in each of their last four Serie A games, and have failed to hold an advantage at the interval in 19 of their last 20 away matches. Vasco, for their part, have avoided falling behind before the break in 19 of their last 21. The pattern across both sides points toward the hosts setting the terms of the contest rather than chasing the game.
The complicating factor is Vasco’s schedule: a 3-1 defeat to Boca Juniors on October 21 leaves them with barely 72 hours’ recovery before this fixture, while Corinthians had the full week to prepare. The head-to-head record also deserves acknowledgement — no wins, one draw and four defeats in the last five meetings from Vasco’s perspective, with the most recent encounter settled 1-0 to Corinthians. Those facts cannot simply be set aside. They are, however, outweighed by a ten-match winless run, a depleted visiting squad and a defensive average that suggests Corinthians are in poor condition to convert that extra rest into anything productive on the day.
Best bet: Vasco da Gama to win
