The Welsh Open starts on Monday, and our snooker betting experts have looked at the various opportunities in the outright market. It is not surprising to see that Judd Trump is the favourite as, since the 2018 Northern Ireland Open, the world number one has won 14 titles from 37 events.

The stats are clear, but it is also clear that Trump looks poor in terms of value ahead of this tournament. He comes to this event in great form having won a challenging Championship League group last week. It is difficult to make an argument against him, yet no player can win every single tournament, and a loss is probably well due. In addition to this, his main rivals are also in top form and from a betting perspective, having the favourite so short opens up plenty of betting opportunities on the rest of the betting market.
For those reasons, our pick in the outright market of the Welsh Open is Mark Selby. The Jester has been in fantastic form recently and has already won two events with this format this season. He should have a relatively easy journey, which should suit his style, as he tends to build form as events progress.
Another player to consider is resurgent Ronnie. There have been signs that Ronnie O’Sullivan might be back. He went to the Masters saying that he is practising like never before and delivered a stellar performance, before losing after a good match against John Higgins. He looked sharp in last week’s Championship League and historically he likes the Welsh Opens, an event that has won four times. All considered, we still prefer Selby as our main tip here, but O’Sullivan is the GOAT and won’t be surprising to see him going all the way here, confirming his significant recent progress.
