Main Bet: Taylor Moore To Win

A Star-Studded Battle at Quail Hollow

The prestigious Wells Fargo Championship is back this week, with many top golfers competing for the $20 million purse. The tournament will be hosted by Quail Hollow, a George Cobb-designed course that measures 7,538 yards. This course went through two renovations by Tom Fazio, the first one in 1997 and the second one in 2016. As a result, it now features Bermuda grass greens overseeded with poa.

A Rich History of Golfing Greats

Since its beginning in 2003, the Wells Fargo Championship has had a number of gaps in its history. For instance, in 2017, Eagle Point hosted the event since Quail Hollow was hosting the PGA Championship, while in 2020, the edition was cancelled. Last year, TPC Potomac at Avenel replaced Quail Hollow as the course was being prepared for September’s Presidents Cup. Even with these gaps, there is plenty of information on course performance to analyse in our search for a potential winner this week.

Stellar Lineup and Notable Absences

Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler will not be taking part in this year’s renewal, but despite their absences, plenty of the world’s top golfers will head to North Carolina. Rory McIlroy, for instance, who won the 2021 Wells Fargo at Quail Hollow, will be one of the contenders, hoping to repeat his impressive performance last year, when he was ranked 3rd in Strokes Gained: Putting.

The Key to Success at Quail Hollow

If we look at recent champions at Quail Hollow, like McIlroy, Max Homa, and Jason Day, we can see that they have all ranked in the top three for Strokes Gained: Putting. This well shows the importance of putting in effort to secure success this week. Additionally, this course also demands more shots from 175-200 yards than the average PGA Tour event, so Approaches from 175-200 yards are also a key stat to consider.

Taylor Moore – A Contender to Watch

Taylor Moore, who is making his debut at Quail Hollow, has already won on the PGA Tour this season, and he is surely a very interesting golfer to keep a close eye on. Moore’s success was at the Valspar Championship in Florida, and in my opinion, this is very relevant for this week as the course is similar to those found in the Carolinas. Additionally, Moore has done well in North Carolina, securing a fifth place at the Wyndham Championship and a third at the Korn Ferry’s Rex Hospital Open.

Moore’s recent form has been nothing short of impressive, with an 11th place finish at the RBC Heritage and a fourth-place finish in the Zurich Classic pairs event. He is also ranking 11th in Strokes Gained: Putting, 25th for Approaches from 175-200 yards and 53rd in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee. Considering all of this, at this high price, he represents a great value, and he is my each-way pick for this week.
