Following a blank day yesterday, Steve Ryder previews two races on Tuesday 9th April. P&L +14.45pts.
3:40 Exeter- Avithos 13/2 (0.5pt ew)
Avithos was well backed to win over C&D last time where she won despite a bad mistake two fences out. That run marked a return to form for the mare who eventually won by seven lengths. She won off a mark of 88 two years ago meaning a mark of 84 isn’t beyond her and she gets the services of 7lb claimer Edward Austin once again.
With a few bookmakers offering four places on the race, Avithos should run well each way over this C&D if she is in the same form as 22 days ago.
7:10 Gowran Park- Jassaar 10/11 (1pt)
Jassaar was sent off 9/4 and 2/1 for maiden races last season so is clearly well regarded by connections. He disappointed on debut when he could only finish 8th at Galway but stepped up on that when finishing 2nd in a strong contest at the Curragh in August. He only finished ½ length behind the high class Sir Erec that day and finished 5 lengths clear of the talented Would Be King.
Dermot Weld has made a good start to the season and is currently operating at a 33% strike rate so it would be disappointing if Jassaar couldn’t get off the mark.
