After a couple of disappointing run by his selections, Steve Ryder previews two races at Wolverhampton on Tuesday 16th January. Jan P&L +8.10pts.
5:40 Kempton- Makaarim 9/4 (1pt)
I am a big fan of Lucymai and put her up to win last time on this article but I think she will find it really difficult to beat Makaarim in this race. Makaarim won very snugly two starts ago at Wolverhampton and was only raised 4lb as a result of the winning distance being a neck. He was then sent off favourite for a handicap at Lingfield next time but was slowly away and had no chance as a result. He entered the straight still last and flew home under tender handling to finish a never nearer 5th. He runs off the same mark in this race and hopefully doesn’t blow the start from Stall 1. His main danger, Lucymai, has been well suited by front running at Chelmford but will find that difficult from Stall 12. Makaarim can hopefully use his good draw and renew his progressive profile.
6:40 Kempton- Corinthia Knight 4/5 (5pt)
This race looks a match between Corinthia Knight and Danzan as they are 25lb clear on ratings but huge preference is for Corinthia Knight based on his AW record. His form reads 11123 on the surface and is race fit having ran in a similar event at Wolverhampton last month. He faces Danzan who hasn’t ran for 108 days since finishing 8th in the Grade 1 Middle Park Stakes but didn’t look suited by the AW on his first two starts (finished 6th and 3rd in maidens). I would be very disappointed if Corinthia Knight doesn’t win this race comfortably for Edward Greatrex who is currently riding with a 38% strike rate.
