Following a 7/4 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder aims to continue his winning run with two selections for racing on Tuesday 10th October. October P&L +29.60 pts.
5:10 Catterick- Lady Joanna Vassa 5/1 (2pt ew)
Despite only winning 4 times from 36 starts, Lady Joanna Vassa always runs consistently well and looks a fantastic each way bet in this race. She won at Musselburgh on 1st October in an apprentice handicap when making all over 5f. As it was an apprentice race, she could run off the same handicap mark the following day. She blew the start that day and after using energy to recover and lead the field, she was headed in the final furlong to eventually finish third. She runs in this race after an 8 day break at a venue that she was a neck second off a handicap mark of 48 in August. She runs here off a mark of 46, is in form and looks guaranteed to be involved at the finish in a race where some bookmakers are offering 4 places.
7:30 Newcastle- First Bombardment 16/1 (0.5pt ew)
First Bombardment went straight into my notebook after his debut run in the Brocklesby when finshing second by a short head back in 2015. He has subsequently proved disappointing overall only managing to win twice from 32 starts. Despite this, he has always performed to a higher level on the AW compared to on turf. He won off a mark of 78 over C&D a year ago and runs in this race off a mark of 68, a huge 15lb lower than his handicap mark when previously running on the AW (finished 5th over C&D off 83 in April). If you can forgive his disappointing runs on turf since, he appears to be very well handicapped with David O’Meara finally appearing to hit a bit of form in the last couple of days. I believe he is worth chancing at a big price back over his preferred C&D with 4 places on offer.
