Main Bet: Tom Kim To Win

Far from a laid-back, casual game following the thrilling US Open, the Travelers Championship has risen to designated event status this year. This implies that the top eight players in the global rankings will make their way to the TPC River Highlands, including Rickie Fowler, fresh off a powerful yet ultimately unsatisfactory performance at Los Angeles Country Club.

Notably, this roster comprises winners from every tournament since 2016, including two noteworthy US Open contenders: Xander Schauffele, the defending champion, and Harris English, the 2021 victor.

Previous Performances and Victories

Schauffele dominated the field in 2022, finishing 19-under par, a score which was also achieved by Dustin Johnson in 2020. Previous winners Chez Reavie and Bubba Watson claimed their victories with a score of 17-under in 2019 and 2018, respectively. English’s win came with a 13-under in more challenging conditions.

The TPC River Highlands, a Pete Dye-designed par-70 course, is relatively short, stretching only 6,852 yards. The course is known for its record-breaking scores, with Jim Furyk once shooting a 58, and Schauffele opening last year with a pair of 63s.

Betting on Tom Kim

Tom Kim, coming off an outstanding performance at the US Open, is one golfer who could leverage this momentum for success at the Travelers Championship. The Korean golfer secured his first top-10 finish at the majors with a tied eighth at Los Angeles Country Club, a considerable feat given his initial 11-shot deficit after round one.

Kim managed to bounce back from an initial 73 in the first round to rounds of 66-68-69, playing the front nine in 29 in the third round. A birdie at the final hole secured his top-10 finish and an automatic return to the 2024 US Open. Kim’s confidence following the US Open could be a significant factor in his performance at the Travelers Championship.

Potential and Previous Achievements

This will be Kim’s inaugural event at the Travelers Championship, but his previous successes on Pete Dye courses give us a reason for optimism. Kim placed sixth at The American Express in January, ending with consecutive 67s at the Pete Dye Stadium Course. In April, he partnered with Si Woo Kim to finish seventh at Dye’s TPC Louisiana in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Kim’s strength isn’t in power-hitting; he’s more adept at shorter tests where short irons and wedges play a significant role. His ranking is impressive too – second in approaches from 125-50 yards and 15th from 150-175.

Moreover, Kim’s victories at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas in October, and his twice winning on the PGA Tour before the age of 21, demonstrate his considerable talent. These victories were accomplished with scores of 20-under (Wyndham Championship) and 24-under (Shriners), making him a perfect fit for the birdie-filled Travelers Championship.

With his consistent performance in the final three rounds of the US Open, it might just be time for Tom Kim, a man who named himself after the beloved children’s character Thomas the Tank Engine, to claim another victory.
