It has been a disappointing Tour de France for Peter Sagan who will want to finish off with a good performance.

As usual, the last stage is a short one and will start just outside Paris before making his way towards the Champs-Elysees where the riders will do the circuit up and down for eight times. The real stage starts when the peloton is reaching the Champs-Elysees. This stage is clearly the dominion of the sprinters, and any breakaway will be taken in time for the last lap when the sprint riders will take over.

On Stage 11 there was a clash between Sagan and Van Aert. Sagan was demoted from second and penalised from his behaviour. Polemics apart, that stage proved that there isn’t a single standout sprinter, and that all of the top four can win depending on the circumstances. So, even if Sagan hasn’t yet won a stage, he has been consistently close and considering he has gone through the mountains better than others, looks like a good value as he could leave a mark right at the end.

It is not surprising to see that Peter Sagan is currently the favourite to win the Green Jersey again. After all, he has won seven of the last eight Points Classifications. Sagan has the qualities and the consistency not only to deliver some great sprints but also he is a good enough climber to secure those intermediate sprint that are on the mountain stages. This is what makes the difference between him and his rivals that are normally staying with the group.

This year things might be different though as there is a new wunderkind in town, called Wout Van Aert who representing Team Jumbo-Visma can seriously prevent Sagan to secure his eight Green Jersey. Van Aert has great talent having won in Strade Bianche and Milan-San Remo in recent weeks. He is very versatile, a good climber and a decent time trialist. The only problem might be that Van Aert will not be given the full freedom to fight for the Green Jersey as he has to viable GC contenders in his squad. Despite that, the price is too interesting to be ignored and considering his form, we are backing him to prevail over Sagan who is the right favourite but looks too short in the betting.

As per the winner of the Tour The France, we cannot ignore the defending champion, Egan Bernal of Team Ineos. He looked to be in excellent form in August when won La Route D’Occitanie and was also second in the Tour de l’Ain. Many are questioning his potentials in the Tour due to the Team Ineos not having the usual control of the peloton. But let’s not forget that Bernal didn’t show himself until the third week of the Tour in 2019, and this is exactly where he will aim to peak. Winning warm-up races are not essential for him. With the support of a top team which includes Richard Carapaz (winner of the 2019 Giro D’Italia), Bernal looks the best value especially as previous Tour winners like Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas haven’t been selected in the Team Ineos.
