Following two frustrating second places yesterday, Steve Ryder previews two races on Thursday 7th February. P&L +27.28pts.
1:15 Thurles- Ex Patriot 6/4 (1pt)
Ex Patriot was a high class juvenile hurdler who finished 4th in the Triumph Hurdle in 2017 behind Defi Du Seuil. He is rated 145 over hurdles which makes him top rated and he has performed well in his two chases so far. He travelled and jumped well at Naas when appearing to not stay the 2m3f trip before finishing a good 4th at Gowran Park behind Cilaos Emery, Impact Factor and Duc De Genievres.
Ex Patriot was rated 23lb higher than Arvico Bleu over hurdles and should prove over 10lb over fences (hasn’t got a mark yet) and I would be disappointed if he couldn’t get off the mark over fences in this race.
5:25 Meydan- Ibn Malik 5/1 (0.5pt ew)
Ibn Malik was a group level performer when trained by Charlie Hills in the UK (rated at a high of 111) and has ran with credit in all of his starts in Meydan this year. With form figures of 665233 it is clear that the handicapper has him spot on but the return back to 6f will suit well.
Ibn Malik was only beaten a nose off this mark in a handicap three starts ago and off the same mark he should be in the mix with four places on offer.
