Steve Ryder previews four races on Thursday 11th January after 4/5 (from 7/4) and 9/4 (from 13/2) losing tips yesterday. Jan P&L -9.90pts.
12:45 Leicester- Not Another Muddle 1/1 (5pt)
Not Another Muddle had the form of 212 in novice hurdles before a good run in the Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle off a mark of 121. Gary Moore is better known for training chasers than hurdlers and it looks as if he has brought about improvement in Not Another Muddle on the form of his first start over fences. He met Fixe Le Kap on 16lb worse terms than in the Imperial Cup but managed to beat him by 2 ¼ lengths on both of their chase debuts. Despite this apparent improvement over fences, he runs in this off a chase mark of 120 compared to the rating of 120 over hurdles. That seems very lenient and I would be disappointed if he was beaten.
2:35 Catterick- Alto Des Mottes 16/1 (0.5pt ew)
A chance is taken on the outsider of the field, Alto Des Mottes, in a race that he has ran well in for the last two seasons. He finished 2nd in 2016 off a mark of 125 and then 6th off the same mark last season. He runs in the race off a mark of 123 this year but that is the mark that he won off at Newcastle last season. He always needs his reappearance so I wouldn’t worry that he was pulled up on his last start and at 16/1, I think he is worth chancing each way in a race we know would have been a target for him.
7:00 Chelmsford- Tangramm 4/1 (1pt ew)
Tangramm won a C&D handicap last month off a mark of 78 at a course which it seems difficult to win with his running style. This proved his downfall last time when not getting a clear run from the rear at Wolverhampton when finishing a closing second at the finish. That was off a mark of 80 and he returns to Chelmsford off the same mark here and should be bang there at the finish if getting luck in running.
8:30 Chelmsford- Mercury 7/4 (2pt)
Mercury ended a long losing run when winning over C&D last time. He now races off 5lb higher but the form of his win has been boosted by the runner up since. Pulsating finished second off a mark of 48 but has won three times since and is now rated 67. If Mercury can run to the same form as his last run, he should prove hard to beat, with main rival Spare Parts drawn out wide in 11.
