After a 33/1 place yesterday, Steve Ryder previews two races at Naas on Sunday 7th January. Jan P&L +2.10pts.
12:40 Naas- Grotesque 15/8 (4pt)
Grotesque hasn’t shown the same form over hurdles compared to his form in bumpers but even a repeat of his last run should be good enough to win this race. Grotesque won his only PTP start before a close second in a bumper behind duel Grade 1 winner Bacardys on his debut for Mouse Morris. He then won a bumper beating Blast Of Koeman who is now rated 125 over fences before finishing 7th in the Champion Bumper at Punchestown. With that bumper form he was sent off 8/11 for his hurdles debut but ran no race at all finishing a distant 14th. He was much improved on his next start over hurdles when finishing 3rd in a maiden hurdle and despite only achieving a RPR of 115 with that run, a repeat of that run should result in victory in this race. His main market rival is Another Barney who has joined Jessica Harrington after winning a PTP but the form of that win hasn’t worked out well at all. That and the fact that the yard are 0-29 in the last two weeks means that Grotesque is a confident selection in the race.
1:15 Naas- Avenir D’Une Vie 3/1 (1pt)
Demi Sang has been put in odds on favourite for this race on the back of two chase victories in France but that has only brought his record to 4 wins from 10 runs. He faces Avenir D’Une Vie who was a high class bumper horse before slightly disappointing over hurdles. Despite failing to complete in two of his chase starts so far, he actually jumps fences really well as he proved when winning at Punchestown two starts ago. He beat Grade 1 winning hurdler Saturnas in that race and he will be sure to get an easy lead in this small field. Hopefully this will provide a double for Davy Russell and I wouldn’t be surprised if Avenir D’une Vie is well backed before the off.
