Following a blank final day of the Aintree Festival, Steve Ryder previews two races in Ireland on Sunday 7th April. P&L +11.95pts.
4:15 Cork- Future Proof 8/1 (0.5pt ew)
With the two Aidan O’Brien runners looking vulnerable on their seasonal debuts, it looks worth backing Future Proof each way in this race. He finished last season rated only 81 but had been running well in juvenile hurdles this season where he has finished runner up on his last three starts.
Connections have booked Declan McDonogh for the ride so a good run is clearly expected and Future Proof should run well in an open race.
5:05 Fairyhouse- Gypsy Island 5/2 (1pt)
Gypsy Island was purchased by JP McManus after an impressive debut win at Ballinrobe. She won easily by 5 lengths that day when she beat a highly regarded Willie Mullins trained mare. Gypsy Island then slightly disappointed on hurdling debut at Navan when sent off the even money favourite but was given a lot to do by Mark Walsh that day and only lost by a length at the finish.
Gypsy Island returned to a bumper last month where she won easily and should be able to handle the step up in class in this race.
