Sunday 6th August Horse Racing Tips and Goodwood Betting Review

Steve Ryder has one selection at Galway on Sunday 6th August and looks back at his bets from the Qatar Goodwood Festival. P&L +13.89pts (+12.18 for Goodwood)

5:00 Jack The Wire 4/1 (1pt ew)

Jack The Wire comes into this race with lots of positives. He won his last race in a handicap chase at Tipperary when winning very easily. He has been raised 11lb by the handicapper for that run but interestingly the mark of 119 over fences is still 2lb lower than his hurdles mark. He won a maiden hurdle over C&D at last years festival and you would imagine a race at this festival will have been his target ever since. He had been campaigned over 3 miles last season and his victory last time came when dropped back down to 2 miles. The distance of 2m2f will prove no problem for him and neither will the soft ground as he won his bumper on soft/heavy ground. Jack The Wire rates a confident selection but as many will have been ‘plotted’ for the meeting I think at 4/1 he is worth backing each way.

Goodwood Review

Day 1:

Home Of The Brave (8/1 ew) : An unlucky 2nd to a 50/1 shot in the Lennox Stakes when tactics called perfectly.

Boom The Groom (9/1 ew): A disappointing run finishing 13th

Amabilis (10/1 ew): Another disappointing run finishing 7th

Day 2:

Taws (12/1 ew): A good run in 4th getting us place money.

Secret Advisor (5/1 ew): Finished 5th just outside the places.

Invincible Army (11/2 ew Rule 4): Ran really well but finished 2nd to Havana Grey who had the race ran to suit him.

Churchill (7/4 NR): Non Runner on account of the ground. The subsequent defeat of Ribchester makes this tough to take.

Day 3:

Good Omen (8/1 ew): An 8/1 winner in the first got us off to a great start on the day.

Nebo (7/2): A good run in 2nd beaten by a smart rival.

Day 4:

Lord Yeats (6/1 ew): Disappointing run when conditions suited him. Finished 5th.

Make Time (7/2): A good run in 2nd but well beaten by impressive winner.

Profitable (11/4): Another good run in 2nd but beaten by a potential superstar.

Al Jazi (7/2 Rule 4): An impressive winner of the race for the second year in a row.

Day 5:

Crystal Ocean (6/4): An impressive winner of the Gordon Stakes.

Hoof It (25/1 ew): Ran a superb race to finish 6th at a big price to win place money.

Dee Ex Bee (4/1 ew): Impressive winner who could be a good 2 year old to follow this season.

Taamol (11/4): A disappointment in the race finishing last.
