Following a 6/5 (3pt) winner and 40/1 and 12/1 places yesterday, Steve Ryder previews three races at Leopardstown on Sunday 3rd February. P&L +25.88pts.
12:40 Leopardstown- Sassy Diva 6/1 (1pt ew)
Sassy Diva has been well backed since the market opened on this race but I still think she is worth backing with six places on offer in the race. She was a high class bumper performer before running well in two strong maiden hurdles last season. Connections held on to her novice status for this season and she went to Ayr to win a weak maiden hurdle before finishing 2nd beaten only a head by the now rated 130 Tintangle.
Sassy Diva finished 2nd behind Honeysuckle, now rated 135, in a listed race last time and now makes her handicap debut off a mark of 116. Her form figures of 132122 show how consistent she has been for the last two seasons and she should run well.
3:00 Leopardstown- Delta Work 13/8 (4pt)
Delta Work won the Pertemps handicap hurdle at Cheltenham and has made a fantastic transition to fences this season. He won a Down Royal on his chasing debut before winning the Grade 1 Drinmore Novice Chase over 2m4f in December beating Le Richbourg who has won two Grade 1s since and is now favourite for the Arkle at Cheltenham. Delta Work was then impressive winning the Grade 1 over 3m at this course over Christmas despite being hampered early on.
Delta Work drops back to 2m5f here but with La Bague Au Roi in the line-up, she should ensure a strongly run race. That rival looks a danger but her form from January onwards is poor (7-761-177 in the last three seasons including a disappointing run on her only start in Ireland last season) so Delta Work is a confident selection.
4:40 Leopardstown- Santa Rossa 3/1 (1pt)
The eye is always drawn to the Willie Mullins trained horses in a Mares Bumper but I think it is worth backing Santa Rossa in this race. Connections had a similar high class bumper performer a couple of years ago in Avellino and Santa Rossa made the perfect start to her career with victory at Fairyhouse when sent off an unfancied 25/1 shot.
Santa Rossa beat a Mullins trained horse 3 ½ lengths that day and they pulled 7 lengths clear of the third and she could upset the favourite in this race.
