Following a 7/1 winner and two 5/1 places yesterday, Steve Ryder previews two races on Sunday 12th August. P&L +107.33pts.
3:35 Curragh- Advertise 5/4 (1pt)
The Phoenix Stakes looks a match between Advertise and Sergei Prokofiev and I would expect Advertise to confirm the form of the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. Advertise finished a neck ahead of Sergei Prokofiev that day staying on past him to lead the group on the far side to finish 2nd overall.
The market has Sergei Prokofiev a slight favourite for this race which I do not understand given that Advertise has form ahead of him at Ascot and that he has form room for improvement from that run. Advertise came into that race on the back of a debut win whereas Sergei Prokofiev had already ran three times before.
Advertise won the July Stakes at Newmarket impressively a month ago by 2 lengths under Frankie Dettori and he comes across for the ride today. With slight question marks still surrounding the form of some horses from the Aidan O’Brien stable, Advertise looks the more likely winner of the two and has to be the bet at a bigger price.
5:30 Downpatrick- Neptune 7/4 (1pt)
Neptune has a wonderful pedigree given that he is a brother to an Irish 1000 Guineas winner and he made a pleasing debut at the Galway Festival in a bumper. He has obviously had his issues given that he only made his debut as a four year old but he showed good form to finish 3rd behind two more experienced rivals at Galway.
Neptune showed his inexperience that day and was one of the first off the bridle but he stayed on well to finish 3rd beaten 7 ½ lengths in the end.
Looking at Neptune at the start, he doesn’t look the biggest of horses so he could have been intimidated by horses in a 15 strong line up so he should appreciate the slightly smaller field of 11 here and more conventional track. If Neptune runs to the same form of his debut run then he should prove hard to beat.
