Stayers’ Hurdle Betting Preview & Tips
Day 3 – Thursday 12th March 2020 – 3.30pm – Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle – Grade 1 – 3m
The Stayers Hurdle is the third Championship race of the 2020 Cheltenham Festival. It is a three mile contest that has produced top winners in recent years like Baracouda, Inglis Drever and, of course, four-time winner Big Bucks.
Penhill was the winner of this race in 2018 but didn’t make it in 2019 due to injury. He has since returned to action this season, but it doesn’t look at the same level. 2019 winner Paisley Park has, therefore, a fantastic chance to land this race for the second year running. It is rather usual to have horses winning this race multiple times so it won’t be a huge surprise.
Summerville Boy will try to avoid this happening. He still needs to find a little in terms of stamina, but did well in the Cleeve Hurdle and could be a protagonist if conditions are going on his favour.
Our Bet: PAISLEY PARK
We believe PAISLEY PARK is the one to back here. Differently from what many believe, he might not have peaked yet, even after winning 7 consecutive times. We believe the staying champion still has what it takes to defend his crown in a race that has seen lots of multiple winners. Summerville Boy looks the main threat even if he has to find some stamina while City Island looks the best Irish challenger.
Our Verdict: Paisley Park

The first time this race was established was in 1972 and at the time the name was the Spa Hurdle.
