It has been a sensational season for John Gosden’s Stradivarius who has already secured the Weatherbys staying bonus for the second year in a row. The impressive performance will try to consolidate his place at the top of the staying ladder even further on Friday when he will take part in the Doncaster Cup. This race together with the Flying Childers Stakes are the features races of the third day of the St Leger Festival. Below are the horse racing betting tips from our experts. To find other best betting tips.
Looking back the last two seasons we can see that Stradivarius has recorded an impressive nine wins on the bounce. Amongst others he has land glory in the Yorkshire Cup, Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup and Lonsdale Cup. It is, therefore, not surprising to see that he is firmly leading the betting market. The son of Sea The Stars can be backed at 4/9 with William Hill to win the Doncaster Cup.
This season he has been utterly dominant and has outclassed the Mark Johnston’s Dee Ex Bee. Johnston’s raider has been chasing Stradivarius consistently throughout the season and will have another opportunity on Friday. He is available at 3/1 with bet365 and will also have a 5lb weight advantage. Stradivarius has a significant penalty to carry, but the feeling is that he will be able to find what it takes to land this critical Group 2 race on Town Moor.
Looking further in the betting market we find Willie Mullins-trained raider Max Dynamite at 25/1 with William Hill. He was second in the Melbourne Cup last season and will be hoping to recover similar form. Sneaky Getaway can also be backed at 25/1 with bet365. He is representing Emmet Mullins and is the new kid of the block. Despite it will be interesting to see how he will fare, it is difficult to see him causing an upset in a race that is likely to be dominated by the top two in the betting market.
Despite A’ali failed to deliver in the Prix Morny in France last time out when he was only fifth he cannot be underestimated. Simon Crisford’s trainee has won the Norfolk Stakes previously and has been made the 11/8 favourite by William Hill to win the Flying Childers Stakes.
This is an intriguing race, and surely the Society Rock colt will love to get back to the quicker ground. Landing glory won’t be easy though, as there will be exciting sprinting prospects competing. One of those is Joseph O’Brien’s Alligator Alley, who is the second favourite at 2/1 with bet365 bookmakers.
He was seen winning at a Listed event at York last time out and the feeling is that a lot more will come from the son of Kingman. If he continues his progress, then he can undoubtedly be a tough competition in what should be a fascinating race.
Outside the first two in the betting market, we find Wheels On Fire at 10/1 with William Hill. He has form to turn around with Alligator Alley and unless he improves massively shouldn’t be a threat. Adding more depth to a competitive renewal, we find Flaming Princess at 12/1 with William Hill and Golden Dragon at 14/1 with the same firm.
