Main Bet: Abraham Ancer
After a long time of US domination over the years, the Sony Open finally had an overseas winner in 2020 as Cameron Smith from Australia secured the title. We believe this trend can now continue and we have picked another international player as our main bet for this week.
If we look at the previous four winners of this tournament, we can see that they were all in the top five for SGP when winning the title. Another significant trend to consider is that 15 of the last 22 winners at Waialae have played the previous week’s Hawaii tournament.
Abraham Ancer fits this profile very well. The Mexican was third for SGP and 13th in SG Approach. Ancer did well last week with the only slightly negative on him which is the course form of MC-29-38. Not great but not too bad either. Last week’s course is significantly different, but the slowish greens are common and considering that he putted them well last week, he can do the same here. Ancer deserves the first PGA Tour win, and this could be the right time.

Stewart Cink (Each-Way) To Win
£20 bet returns £1,220 with Betvictor

Each Way Bet: Stewart Cink
Stewart Cink was back on the winning wagon this season when landed the Safeway Open. We believe that the success in California wasn’t a one off and his form has continued to be very good with a tied 12 at the Sanderson Farms and a tied 4 in the Bermuda Championship.
In last week’s event he finished tied 31and even if that result doesn’t shine, he fired 69-67 (-10) in the middle rounds. It looks as Cink is back in top form and has familiarity with this course. In 2005 he finished fifth here and 10th in 2006. From 2009 he has made nine out of ten cuts, so he is a consistent performer here. We hope that last week’s event has put him into shape and will deliver a sharper performance. Might not win, but at this price, it would be enough if he gets close.
