Main Bet: Aaron Wise To Win

When I initially saw the entry list, I said to myself, “Check out Aaron Wise.”

As a result of winning the AT&T Byron Nelson with a score of 23-under, Wise has earned the reputation of being the first person to come to mind when birdies are required. That occurred less than a year after his 21-under par victory at the Air Capital Classic for Web.com. He had two 62s to begin that competition!

Wise had a career-high global ranking of 36 last season when he truly started to develop as a golfer. A second-place finish at Memorial and being in the top 35 in each of the final three majors contributed to that climb up the OWGR. His matched sixth-best 72-hole score at the Tour Championship put the finishing touches on an outstanding season.

The ability to continue to add circles to his scorecard has helped Wise in this competition, as he finished last season in 21st place for Birdie Average. The American, who blasted the par 71 on day two with a 62, was tied for tenth in his debut in 2016, tied for fifteenth in 2018, and tied for eighth last year. Since Wise moved to Las Vegas in 2016, this is a home game, and locals have had success in this tournament in the past.

Vegas is at an altitude, so knowing how far the ball will travel will undoubtedly be helpful. Many paths go to Wise, so I’ll choose him as the first bet for this week.

Main Bet: Lower To Win

I’m going to place a roll of the dice wager in Vegas on Justin Lower at a 100/1 odds. With ties for eighth at the Barbasol and sixteenth at the Barracuda, the 33-year-old began to show up on PGA Tour leaderboards in the summer.

Additionally, he finished tied for 30th at the Rocket Mortgage and tied for 36th at the Wyndham Championship. More recently, he has started to regain his form. Lower opened with a 63 and finished tied fourth in the Fortinet Championship, his best result to date at this level, after finishing tied ninth in the Korn Ferry’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Ohio.

Lower, who according to his PGA Tour profile “rhymes with power,” is a straight hitter, has finished 19th, second, and third in his last 3 events in terms of driving accuracy. He also possesses good putting skills; in each of his PGA Tour outings this year, he has been in the top 20 for SG: Putting.

He also currently ranks 6th for Birdie Average (compared to 46th last season), so he seems like an excellent candidate to quietly carry out his duties and spring a surprise. In the summer, Lower lost his PGA Tour card after memorably three-putting the last hole at the Wyndham Championship. A tearful post-round interview went viral on social media. But now that LIV players have been dropped from the top 125, he is back to full status.

It’s been a wild trip, but he’s already demonstrated that having a respite has made him feel lighter by finishing in the top four at the Fortinet while holding the 54-hole lead. Hopefully, in Vegas, he can ride his fortune to a big win.
