Main Bet: Jordan Spieth
This week we have the first co-sanctioned tournament between the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour, and this is a first in the history of the sport. With St. Andrews coming up, it is unsurprising that 14 of the world’s top 15 are playing at the Renaissance Club. The player we like the most here is Jordan Spieth, who has done a great job peaking for majors and has recently played some great golf. Earlier this year, he secured the RBC Heritage and last year, he won the week before the US Masters.
Although he hasn’t played at this course before, he has finished fourth and ninth in two of the last three starts in Scotland (St Andrews and Carnoustie). The three-time major winner has some clear links golf under his belt, and will be very determined to put on a show this week in this tournament. Even if this is not a true links, Spieth will like the test provided by this course, considering that his record by or near the coast is awe-inspiring. He ranks 20th SG: Tee To Green this season and has done well on the slower greens in Scotland before. All considered we are happy to back him at this high price, as he can, once again, peak before a major.

Each-way Bet: Keith Mitchell
Keith Mitchell is our each-way bet for this week. After finishing in the top seven in the Canadian Open, he managed to secure a place for next week’s event. Mitchell followed that performance with a tied sixth in the Travelers Championship after sitting out of the US Open. He showed to be in excellent form recently as he also finished tied 18th at the Memorial: overall, he has had a run of four top 12s in the five appearances on the PGA Tour during January and February. Mitchell has now at a career-high 54th in the world rankings, and if he can continue to do well, he will get into that important top 50 that will bring him plenty of benefits. He was the highest-finishing American in last year’s Scottish Open, and with the improvements he has made, it makes sense to back him to be in contention this week.
