Following a disappointing second and a NR yesterday, Steve Ryder previews two races on Saturday 6th January. January P&L +0.30pts.
2:05 Chepstow- Silsol 33/1 (0.5pt ew)
Silsol hasn’t ran over fences since January 2016 but as a result can run off a mark of 147 compared to his chase mark of 155. Bryony Frost takes off a further 5lb in this race and if he can run up to the form of when he beat Native River and Lil Rockerfeller in the Bet365 hurdle over 3 miles last season he should have a huge chance. His form over fences also stacks up with him beating Seeyouatmidnight (now rated 154), Gold Cup runner up Minella Rocco (161) and Grand National winner One For Arthur (156) in his four runs over fences. Silsol handles heavy ground and looks a big price at 33/1 with six places on offer.
3:00 Sandown- Houblon Des Obeaux 11/1 (0.5pt ew)
These Veterans Chases are fantastic and a chance is taken on Houblon Des Obeaux. He will handle the forecast heavy ground and has form over further than 3 miles which should prove a huge plus in conditions. He has ran at Sandown on his last two starts where he won a Veterans Chase off a mark of 141 and then ran well in a competitive handicap at the venue last time when finishing sixth off 143. Venetia Williams is in good form with 4 winners from 15 runners (27% SR) and he looks a more consistent option than many in an open looking race.
