1:40 Newmarket- Makzeem 8/1 (0.5pt ew)
Makzeem hasn’t beaten a rival this season but they were both in listed races and he now drops back into a handicap. His form at Newmarket reads 2121 including a win over 7f at the Rowley Mile off a mark of 97 and a place in the consolation race last year off a mark of 94.
Makzeem is now rated 103 but has Ryan Moore booked who is 2-4 on him including in that race last season. Roger Charlton is 5-17 (29% SR) in the last two weeks and therefore has a stable in form, Ryan Moore back on board and C&D form.
Makzeem looks a good each way bet with six places on offer.
2:15 Newmarket- Spirit Of Valor 66/1 (0.5pt ew)
Spirit Of Valor has a patchy record but has the class to get involved if running to his best. He finished 2nd in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot at 66/1 before winning a Group 2 at the Curragh on his next start. Both of those starts were over 7f but he does have form over 6f including when chasing home Royal Ascot winner Merchant Navy in a Group 2 in May. Spirit Of Valor was only beaten a length that day and finished ahead of Group 1 horses in Tasleet and Brando there.
Aidan O’Brien frequently has third/fourth strings place at big prices in Group 1s and I think Spirit Of Valor is overpriced at 66/1 with four places on offer.
3:05 Ascot- Extra Elusive 6/4 (1pt)
Extra Elusive has won both of his starts so far in novice stakes winning by over 2 lengths in both. He makes his handicap debut off a mark of 86 today but given the fact he held an Irish Derby entry and still holds a Great Voltigeur (Group 2) entry he is obviously held in high regard.
Extra Elusive has been well backed since the market has opened and therefore it seems that I am not the only person who thinks an opening mark of 86 looks lenient and he should prove hard to beat.
3:40 York- Master Carpenter 20/1 (0.5pt ew)
Master Carpenter won this race in 2015 off a mark of 104 and sneaks in at the bottom of the handicap off a rating of 90 this season. He has further good York form with a C&D victory off a mark of 95 last season and has also finished 4th this season off a mark of 93.
Master Carpenter also has Charlie Bennett claiming 3lb in this race which means he is only carrying 8st6lb in this race and he should be able to run well at a big price each way with six places on offer.
7:00 Hamilton- Zanetto 14/1 (0.5pt ew)
Zanetto won a listed race in 2013 and was rated 109 when he competed in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes later that season. He hadn’t won again until April 2017 when rated only 83 and he runs here off a mark of 82 (his lowest mark since 2012).
Zanetto won last season on his reappearance after a 173 day break and makes his reappearance in this race after a 266 day break and he looks a big price on his return to a Class 4 handicap.
