Main Bet: Roger Sloan

In 2020 Sergio Garcia landed this tournament, and this tells us that this is a good opportunity for top players to land a win, especially when their regular main rivals are absent or not fully focused. Last year’s win, however, was an exception as the previous six editions were won by players that didn’t have a PGA Tour win yet.

The Sedgefield Country Club, which is the host of the Wyndham Championship, offers some important correlation with this week’s course and has to be considered. Both layouts feature Champion Bermuda, and some visuals are similar. So it makes sense to look at players who shot low rounds and also that are good driving. For instance, Sergio was ranking 1st for SG: Off The Tee last year, and nine of the first 11 were ranking well in that category. If we look at 2019, all the top five ranked in the top 10 for Off The Tee.

Considering all of those signals, our pick for this week is Canada’s Roger Sloan. This is because he is a good driver of the ball and also did very well at the Wyndham Championship when he shot a couple of 64s on his way to the second position. Before that event, Sloan also finished sixth in the Barracuda Championship and tied 16th in the 3M Open after scoring an opening 64. Additionally, Sloan is yet to land a win on the PGA Tour, which fits well the general trend we highlighted before.

With those high odds, you can expect a couple of negatives as well, and he did miss the cuts in the last two events. Also, he did miss the cut here two times, but that was back in 2014 and 2018, while last year he opened with 67 and eventually finished tied 32nd. Considering he had a second and a sixth in August together with a series of low rounds in recent tournaments, we believe there is a great value on his price.

Stephan Jaeger (Each-Way) To Win

£20 bet returns £1,220 with Betvictor

Each-way Bet: Stephan Jaeger

The player we like the most for an each-way punt this week is Stephan Jaeger. The German is famous for delivering some low rounds, like when he shot a 58 in the Ellie Mae Classic. He has also won as recently as April in the Emeral Coast Classic and got second place in May’s Knoxville Open and June’s Rex Hospital Open. He also opened with a 63 in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship and delivered a 64 on the Saturday in the Boise Open.

Even if he didn’t make the cut in the Fortinet Championship, he did well there in the second round when he shot a 70 at Silverado. Jaeger has also made the cut in two of the last three editions in this event, including in 2018 when he finished tied 14th. Although he is not a great driver of the ball, his hot short game could keep him in contention and looks a great each-way value.
