Russia v Scotland Tips & Predictions
10th October 2019 – 19:45
Match Preview & Team News
Russia have all but secured the qualification for the next European Championship after a pair of wins over Scotland and Kazakhstan a month ago. They thus won five on the spin to go eight points clear off Kazakhstan and Cyprus in the battle for the second place in the Group I. Scotland are second from bottom with just six points from the opening six affairs.
Stanislav Cherchesov’s troops can now confirm the second spot in the group with a seventh-round win at home against Scotland. They are heavy favourites on Thursday evening. In-form Artem Dzyuba will lead the line. Zenit’s forward has been the main catalyst for the Russian success in this qualifying term. He bagged six goals in six appearances so far and was on the scoreline in the 1-2 victory over the Scots last month at Hampden Park. The 31-year-old forward scored one of his team’s three goals in the Champions League victory over Benfica (3-1).
Since Scotland struggled badly on travels so far in the campaign, we’d not be surprised to see Dzyuba on the scoresheet once again. The Scots conceded three goals in each of the away defeats to Kazakhstan and Belgium. They shipped nine goals in the last three qualifiers and they lost five of the last seven games on the road across competitions.
On the other side, Russia have won five and drawn one of the six matches since the World Cup elimination to Croatia (on penalties). They kept four successive clean sheets on the home soil.
