Premier League Preview and Betting Tips

Saturday 14th – Monday 16th October

Match Previews and Betting Tips

Another weekend of international games is over and this weekend it’s back to normal with a full fixture list in the Premier League. The neck and neck battle for supremacy at the top of the table could take another twist this weekend as joint leaders Manchester City have a very winnable game at home against Stoke City while Manchester United’s lucky streak could be at end when they travel to Merseyside to face Jurgen Klopp’s inconsistent Liverpool.

Saturday 14th October

Liverpool v Manchester United. The first scheduled Premier League game is also probably the biggest game of the weekend as Liverpool face old foes Manchester United at Anfield. There is little doubt that Liverpool would run out easy winners if having one of their better days but those days are hard to predict. The Reds have won just one of their last four league games despite having created numerous goal scoring chances in those matches. One day the tide will turn and the impressive attacking talent at Liverpool’s disposal will make someone suffer and that could well be this weekend as the Reds need little incentive to turn in a performance against their old enemies. United remain level on points with Manchester City at the head of the table but that is a false position as the Red Devils have enjoyed more than a modicum of good luck this season. This will be United’s first league game against top quality opposition and Jose Mourinho’s side could be found wanting in an easy Liverpool victory at 13/8.

Prediction: Liverpool to win

Manchester City v Stoke City. While Manchester United have probably been beaten at Liverpool earlier in the day, Manchester City should be able to take full advantage with a home victory over a fairly poor Stoke City side. City have looked impressive all season and particularly so in their last game when deserving 1-0 winners against defending champions Chelsea away from home. The loss of star striker Sergio Aguero is a blow to the title contenders but City have enough quality throughout the team to be confident about a sixth successive league victory this weekend over a Stoke side that has won just two of seven league games played. It is hardly surprising to find that a Manchester City victory is as low as 1/7 in the betting but that is the only logical bet in what should be a comfortable home win.

Prediction: Manchester City to win

Tottenham Hotspur v Bournemouth. At very cramped odds of 1/6 a home win for Tottenham Hotspur should be a certainty when they face Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. Given the fact that Spurs are third in the table and have lost just one of the seven games played while Bournemouth are struggling down in second last place with five defeats already that would appear to be the case. However, Bournemouth are probably in a false position as the team have been somewhat unlucky on occasion and may not be as bad as the record suggests. That said, playing away from home against an in-form Spurs side is a daunting task for Bournemouth and another defeat looks imminent although it may be by just a solitary goal.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur to win

Crystal Palace v Chelsea. Crystal Palace have an unenviable record of seven defeats in seven games as the club sit bottom of the table and four points adrift of fellow strugglers Bournemouth. That unwanted record looks set to continue this weekend as Palace, despite home advantage, look to have the almost impossible task of beating current Champions and fourth in the table Chelsea. The title holders good run came to an end in their last game when beaten 1-0 at home by Manchester City and Antonio Conte’s side will be in no mood to drop further points in a game with the Premier League’s bottom side. This could well be a goalfest for the Londoners and a hammering for poor Palace and the only possible bet is an away win for Chelsea at odds-on 1/3.

Prediction: Chelsea to win

Watford v Arsenal. Saturday’s late game sees Watford play host to Arsenal and a close game can be expected despite the bookies’ odds of 4/7 for an Arsenal away win. Watford have had a pretty decent start to the season with three wins and three draws in seven games and will not be easily beaten by Arsenal despite the Gunners’ recent improvement which has seen them pick up three wins and a draw in the last four games. Expecting Watford to win might be a bit of a stretch but home advantage and a good work ethic may be enough to secure an important point in a drawn match at 16/5.

Prediction: Draw

Sunday 15th October

Brighton & Hove Albion v Everton. The pressure is mounting on Everton manager Ronald Koeman as his Everton team continue to struggle in the league this season. Four defeats in the last five matches have seen the Toffees plummet to fifth from bottom and the fans are getting nervous and restless. This Sunday lunchtime, Koeman takes his troubled team to the south coast to face newly-promoted Brighton & Hove Albion. Defeat for Everton could add another nail to Koeman’s coffin but that looks a very likely result given both sides’ recent record. Brighton are hardly pulling up any trees but two wins in the last three matches is far superior to what Everton have to show for their efforts and that form, coupled with home advantage, should see Brighton collect three more very important points at nice odds of 23/10.

Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion to win

Monday 16th October

Leicester City v West Bromwich Albion. Champions just a season back, Leicester City are really struggling this term as the club sits in the bottom four and ponders the possibility of relegation. Just one win in seven games is a pretty poor return and may not be good enough to see Leicester beat mid-table West Bromwich Albion on Monday night. Despite the fact that West Brom are seven places above their hosts in the table, recent results have been less than impressive as the Baggies have not won in five matches and two of those games ended in defeat. With both teams badly out of form, a drawn game looks highly probable and a solid bet at around 12/5.
