A Spirited Pre-Season Showdown

Key Stats
– Leicester recorded an average BettingTips4You expert rating of 6.79, ranking 15th out of 20 in last season’s Premier League.
– Tottenham Hotspur have so far managed to retain Harry Kane despite interest from Bayern Munich.
– Both teams have shown attacking potential in their pre-season fixtures, with Spurs scoring 2 goals against West Ham and Leicester scoring 4 against Leuven.

As the exciting 2023-24 Premier League season awaits, Tottenham Hotspur will keep up their pre-season momentum as they go head-to-head with a now Championship team, Leicester City, in an intriguing face-off in Bangkok this Sunday.

Tottenham had a rough start to their pre-season campaign with a slim 3-2 defeat at the hands of rivals West Ham United on Tuesday. However, Leicester had a contrasting run by recording a 1-0 victory over Northampton Town in their first summer friendly before registering a win against OG Leuven in a midweek training-ground contest. The Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League last season was a surprise, given their 18th position finish with only 34 points from 38 games.

With the reins now in the hands of former Manchester City assistant Enzo Maresca, Leicester appear set to be a strong contender for the Championship title this season. Their squad strength has been boosted by new additions such as Harry Winks and Conor Coady from Tottenham and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively, along with Mads Hermansen and Callum Doyle.

Leicester’s encouraging pre-season victories, 1-0 against Northampton and 4-2 against Leuven, underscore their intent for the upcoming season. With only two more pre-season friendlies to go, against Tottenham and Liverpool, the Foxes are certainly gearing up for their Championship opener against Coventry City on August 6.

In contrast, Tottenham found themselves on the wrong side of the five-goal thriller with West Ham. Despite trailing by two goals, Giovani Lo Celso and Destiny Udogie’s efforts levelled the game, only for West Ham’s Gianluca Scamacca to clinch the match, resulting in a 3-2 defeat for Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs have a busy pre-season schedule ahead, including matches against Leicester, Lion City Sailors, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Barcelona before their Premier League opener against Brentford on August 13. To fortify their ranks, Spurs have made notable summer signings including Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Manor Solomon. However, Harry Kane’s ongoing transfer saga with Bayern Munich remains a matter of concern for the club.

Players to Watch

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, despite attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, is likely to remain a vital cog in the Foxes’ wheel. His presence upfront, along with James Justin and Kelechi Iheanacho, could be a cause of concern for the Tottenham defence. Leicester’s Harvey Barnes, however, will be missing as he is on the brink of a switch to Newcastle United.

Spurs will miss a host of their players, including Rodrigo Bentancur, Fraser Forster, Bryan Gil, Troy Parrott, Ryan Sessegnon, and Hugo Lloris. Nevertheless, the sight of Harry Kane leading the attack, assisted by Maddison, could strike fear into Leicester’s backline. Tottenham’s potential new starter, Richarlison, and Ben Davies could also provide a significant boost to the team.

Predictions

Given Leicester’s superior state of pre-season preparations, they could be the more physically fit side going into Sunday’s match. However, Tottenham’s exciting clash with West Ham suggests that we might be in for a high-scoring match.

  1. Our first prediction, based on the teams’ recent form and player availability, is both teams scoring at least once, creating an engaging encounter for fans.
  2. The second prediction for a correct score would be a 2-2 draw, with both teams showing potential in their attacking prowess while also having vulnerabilities in their defences.
  3. Lastly, our goalscorer prediction hinges on the striking ability of Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who we anticipate will score at least once in this game.
