England is back live on Channel 4 today, as at Wembley Stadium, the Three Lions are hosting Ukraine for their second match of their Euro 2024 qualifiers. We have asked our expert Graham Hartshorn to provide his view on this game and also two picks, including a 15/8 shout.

England were truly impressive in the first half in Naples, and at some point they looked like they could humiliate the Italians, but they didn’t due to several errors in front of goals, like the one from Jack Grealish, who failed to convert a brilliant chance from close range. Harry Kane stole all the headlines as he scored a penalty to become England’s top scorer with 54 goals. So from Gareth Southgate’s point of view, everything has worked as he would have hoped, and he has also recovered his captain’s confidence, which is vital for the Three Lions successes.

Even if Southgate has received plenty of criticism in the last couple of years in regards to how he manages the team in decisive games in major tournaments, nobody can say anything to him when it comes to being consistent in qualifiers. In the previous qualifying campaign for the World Cup in Qatar, England finished with a +36 goal difference from ten matches, and if we go by what we saw in Naples, this trend is likely to continue.

Ukraine will face a very difficult task on Sunday evening as England have won 10 consecutive European Championship qualifiers at home, and they will want to follow up the good performance in Italy with another solid win.

As for the visitors, this would be their first Euro 2024 qualifier match, and they will be hoping to cause an upset. After not making it to the World Cup in Qatar, the Ukraine is trying for the fourth time in a row to get into the European Championship. Ruslan Rotan, the interim boss, took over after Oleksandr Petrokov left the position as a result of that. The last time these two teams met was in the Euro 2020 quarterfinals a couple of years ago, when England hammered Ukraine 4-0.

Surely Ukraine cannot be underestimated as they come into this clash on a 10 game unbeaten run in Euro qualifiers. But England are the better side and are also in much better form. After the win against Italy, they have also regained all the confidence they need to dominate this group, and if they start in the same way as they did in Naples, this could be a very long afternoon for Ukraine.

England haven’t given up a goal in three of its last four European qualifiers, and the last time it played Ukraine at the Euros, they won by a comfortable 4-0.In a packed Wembley, we expect them to dominate already in the first half and settle the matter before halftime. Betting on them to be leading at halftime and win the game looks like the best value here.

So a comfortable win for England is on the cards, and Bukayo Saka is likely to be one of the protagonists. The Arsenal player is having a fantastic season for both club and country, and managed to deliver a shot on target against Italy.

The 21-year-old also scored a brace in the last match played with the Gunners against Crystal Palace, and scored three goals in four appearances at the World Cup, with an average of a goal every 97 minutes. Against a Ukrainian side that are likely to struggle to keep up with the quality of England’s attack, he looks to value to record two or more shots on target.
