The Portugal Masters is coming right at the end of the European Tour season as, after this week, there will only be the Dubai Championship to come. For this reason, many players will be hugely motivated to end well, and we should have a competitive affair. At the Dom Pedro course, we will also see several players fighting to secure the rights to play next season. Our pick is on a player with a different objective: a return to the DP World Tour Championship.
Joakim Lagergren is currently sitting at 48th in the Race to Dubai, so he can secure his place with a strong performance here. He has been particularly brilliant in recent weeks with good performances at Wentworth and the Open de Espana. Additionally, he also finished second at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, a tournament where he has excelled already in the past. He knows that this track will suit him and will focus on grabbing this opportunity right at the end of the season. At the Dom Pedro, he was tied 17th in 2016, tied 14th in 2019 and tied third last year, so at this price looks like the best bet for this weekend.

Each Way Bet: Julien Guerrier
Our each-way bet for this week is Julien Guerrier, who is still looking to secure his first European Tour win. The Frenchman is currently 103rd in the rankings, so he will also be fighting to retain his card for next season. He has been in good form recently as he was in contention at the Open de Espana, where he finished third. At Valderrama, he was tied 25th, after leading after the first round with a 67. At Dom Pedro, he made his debut in 2018, where he finished 34th, and last year was also in contention for a little while and ended tied eight. We believe he has the form to build on that result and looks an exciting proposition at this price for an each-way punt.
