Match Preview & Team News
Porto vs Maritimo betting tips & predictions for this Portuguese Primeira Liga Wednesday’s affair. It was a shocking return to football for Porto who conceded a damaging defeat against Famalicao and have, as a result, seen Benfica get level with them in points at the top of the league. Thankfully for them, Benfica also failed to win, but a reaction is expected immediately when they host struggling Maritimo. Can they get back to winning ways? Read below our Portuguese Primeira Liga betting tips and predictions.
Current Table Position And Home & Away Performances
Porto have worked very hard in the last few months to catch Benfica at the top of the table, but with the defeat suffered against Famalicao, they have risked undoing all the good done. With Benfica also failing to win, Porto have retained the top spot but are level in points with their rivals which means the title race is likely to go right to the wire.
Maritimo have been struggling this season as they are sitting in 15th place in the table. Yet, they have a decent six points cushion over the relegation zone, and unless a massive slump in form, they should retain their Portuguese top flight’s status. Their form has been rather concerning though as they have won only once in their last eight games, with five defeats in the period. They have restarted their campaign with a 1-1 draw at home against Vitoria Setubal.
When playing at the Estadio do Dragao, Porto have dominant with 10 wins out of twelve matches played, with one draw and only 1 defeat. Their points per game average has been a healthy 2.58. On the other hand, Maritimo have been struggling to cope with away matches as they have won only two times away from home this season, with four draws and six defeats. Their away points per game average has been 0.83.
Goals Key Stats
Sergio Conceicao can count on a squad of top players with the likes of Ze Luis (7 goals), Tiquinho Soares (7 goals) and several others that can decide matches at any times. As a result, scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for them as they have netted 2.17 goals per game on average and have been solid at the back with just 0.50 shipped. Maritimo, on the other hand, have only been able to score 0.50 goals per away match, but have conceded 1.33 on average. Both teams have scored only in 33% of Porto’s home fixtures and in 25% of the visitors’ away trips.
We believe that Porto’s defeat against a good side like Famalicao was only a blip and that we should see much better performance as they head back to their ground. Maritimo are nearly safe, and this is not the place where they will be hoping to score points. They will, however, try to play defensively, hoping to cause problems in the counter-attack.
