Following 11/1, 18/1 and 33/1 places yesterday, Steve Ryder previews the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle on Day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival. P&L +8.97pts.
2:10 Cheltenham- Sire Du Berlais 9/2 (1pt ew)
Sire Du Berlais has looked a plot for this race all season and the market support about him this morning is very encouraging. He still hasn’t won for new connections but has been eyecatching in handicaps including when finishing 4th in the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle at the festival last season. He was held up that day in a strangely run race before staying on well at the finish over 2m4f.
Sire Du Berlais was extremely eyecatching in a qualifier for this race at Leopardstown at Christmas where he finished 6th under Davy Russell despite making up lots of ground late on. This race has no doubt been the aim for the whole season and now with Barry Geraghty on board and in first time cheekpieces he should go extremely well for connections that had the well gambled Glenloe last year. He was been well backed into 9/2 but with six places on offer I would still back him each way.
