Races Previews For Today’s, Thursday 16th May at York Dante Festival

2:15 York – Lindum York Handicap, 5f

This race features a strong field, including the fleet-footed Clarendon House. This horse, ridden by Tom Marquand and trained by Robert Cowell, is known for its impressive speed, making York an ideal venue to showcase its abilities. The competition includes Spartan Arrow and the seasoned Alligator Alley, both likely to be formidable opponents.

Additionally, Looking For Lynda, trained by Karl Burke, is another strong contender with a solid track record at York. Jm Jungle, from the stable of John and Sean Quinn, has shown potential in previous races and could spring a surprise. Also in the mix is Marine Wave, whose performance in similar conditions suggests he could be a dark horse in this race.

2:30 Salisbury – Al Basti Equiworld Dubai “City Bowl” Handicap, 1m6f

A captivating race featuring Pawapuri, a horse that has shown considerable potential as a stayer. Trained by Nicky Henderson and ridden by Richard Kingscote, Pawapuri has previously impressed with a Listed hurdle win at Haydock. The key competitors include horses like Warmonger, who has been in good form on the Al Bahathri gallops.

Also, Presenting Max from Tony Martin’s yard could be a surprise package, given his trainer’s success in similar races. Bittalemon, representing William Haggas, is another noteworthy entry, especially with his promising debut performance at Newbury. Moreover, the experienced Norton Hill, trained by Anthony Honeyball, brings additional depth to this competitive field.

2:45 York – Oakmere Homes Hambleton Handicap, 1m

Catch The Paddy, a horse with a strong track record at York, returns for this mile race. Despite a lacklustre performance at Newmarket, its previous top ratings at York make it a notable contender. Other participants include the well-handicapped Cruyff Turn and the consistently performing Northern Express.

Adding to the competition, Point Lynas, trained by Ed Bethell, has shown good form at this distance and track. Another to watch is Mirsky, who has displayed promising performances since arriving from France. Lastly, Al Mubhir and Dutch Decoy bring additional intrigue, having shown flashes of brilliance in previous outings.

3:15 York – Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Middleton Fillies’ Stakes (Group 2), 1m2½f

Infinite Cosmos, trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ridden by Ryan Moore, stands out in this Group 2 race. Despite Bluestocking’s near misses in Group 1s, Infinite Cosmos shows promise for further improvement this season. The race also features Free Wind and Bluestocking, both formidable fillies with strong performances in past races.

In addition, Novus, who ran a close race at Goodwood recently, could pose a significant challenge. Sapphire Seas, who has consistently performed well, including a strong showing at Yarmouth, is another to keep an eye on. Lastly, the experienced Sommelier, although carrying a weight disadvantage, could make an impact if the conditions suit.

3:45 York – Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante Stakes (Group 2), 1m2½f

The Dante Stakes is always a highlight. The highly regarded Caviar Heights, who impressed in the Newmarket Stakes, is a major contender. God’s Window, despite some setbacks, has shown potential that could see him perform well. War Rooms, trained by Owen Burrows, and Cambridge from Aidan O’Brien’s stable, also bring quality and intrigue to this race.

Clarendon House’s exceptional speed makes it a strong candidate for this 5f sprint. This horse, trained by Robert Cowell and ridden by Tom Marquand, has a proven track record of performing well over shorter distances, particularly on fast tracks like York. In previous races, Clarendon House has demonstrated a burst of speed that outpaces competitors in the final furlongs, making it a formidable opponent in sprints.

Its agility and quick acceleration out of the gate give it a significant advantage, especially in a tightly contested race where every second counts. Additionally, York’s flat course is ideal for a speedster like Clarendon House, allowing it to maintain high velocity throughout the race without the challenge of inclines or rough patches. Given its past performances and favourable conditions, Clarendon House stands out as a top contender in this race.

Pawapuri’s stamina and previous Listed hurdle win make her a top choice for this 1m6f race. Under the guidance of trainer Nicky Henderson and with Richard Kingscote as the jockey, Pawapuri is expected to excel in this long-distance event. Her performance in the Listed hurdle at Haydock showcased her ability to maintain a strong pace over extended distances, a critical factor for success in the City Bowl Handicap. Pawapuri’s training regimen has been tailored to enhance her endurance, focusing on long runs and stamina-building exercises.

This preparation is crucial for a race of this length, where endurance often trumps speed. Furthermore, her ability to navigate through the pack and position herself strategically during the race will be essential. Kingscote’s experience and tactical acumen will play a pivotal role in ensuring Pawapuri is well-placed to make a decisive move in the final stages. With these factors in her favour, Pawapuri is well-positioned to deliver a stellar performance.

Despite a lacklustre return at Newmarket, Catch The Paddy’s strong past performances at York make it a compelling choice for this mile race. Trained by Kevin Ryan and ridden by the experienced Jamie Spencer, Catch The Paddy has consistently shown an affinity for York’s course. This horse has delivered some of its best performances here, displaying a unique ability to handle the track’s nuances. Catch The Paddy’s previous victories at York include a remarkable win where it overcame a tough field, demonstrating both resilience and speed.

The return to a familiar track is likely to boost its confidence and performance levels. Spencer’s expertise will be crucial in navigating the competition, particularly in a race that demands both strategic positioning and timely sprints. His ability to judge the pace and make decisive moves at critical moments could make all the difference. Given these considerations, Catch The Paddy stands out as a strong contender for this race.

This smart colt, ridden by Tom Marquand, has shown exceptional potential from the outset. In its debut, Economics demonstrated a keen ability to accelerate and maintain a strong pace, characteristics that are essential for success in high-stakes races like the Dante. Haggas’s training regimen, which includes a balanced mix of speed work and stamina-building exercises, has prepared Economics well for this challenge.

The horse’s ability to handle varying track conditions and its quick adaptation to different race scenarios make it a formidable contender. Marquand’s experience and strategic insight will be crucial in navigating the field and positioning Economics for a strong finish.
