Poulter To Win

Main Bet: Ian Poulter

As this event takes place just a week before the US Open, it has attracted many big names. Congaree Golf Club is a course that has been designed by Tom Fazio and has Bermuda Greens. There are generous landing areas off the tee but also lots of sand. The course should suit short or long hitters, but they need to be able to shape the ball, and generally, this is not an easy track with rain that could also be in the game.

Our pick for this week is Ian Poulter. Hilton Head is a close course, and the Englishman has made 11 cuts there, with four top 15s in his last five visits. He has already qualified for the US Open, and it is coming in great form as he secured a third place in the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial. He also followed that up with a respectable top 30 in the PGA Championship. Additionally, Poulter’s putter is hot as he was 1st for SG: Putting on the Bermuda greens at Hilton Head and was in the top 12 for SGP at Kiawah Island and Colonial. Considering that Poulter is 29th for Sand Saves, it makes sense to back him to shine at this price. The Englishman also won the Houston Open the week before the 2018 Masters and tends to do very well before major tournaments with plenty of good results in the Scottish Opens before the Open Championship.

Villegas (Each-way) To Win

Each Way Bet: Camilo Villegas

If you are looking for longer odds, you might want to consider Camilo Villegas. The Colombian has been in decent shape this year and secured a tied eighth at the Honda Classic. In the last five tournaments, he has recorded four top 25s. During this period, he also finished tied 11th at the Valspar. So he is one to watch on Bermuda greens and has ranked third for SG: Putting at Hilton Head where he finished tied 25th.

He also does well with sand elements, as he ranks 16th for Sand Saves this season and has performed regularly in Australia, where he recorded a tied 10th at Royal Melbourne and a tied eight at Victoria Golf Club, which are both courses with plenty of sand. He is 26th Around the Greens, and at this price, he is undoubtedly worth to back that he will be in contention.
