Connor Syme To Win

Main Bet: Connor Syme

The Scotsman played the Celtic Manor 2010 Course superbly, placing second, third, eighth, and 18th. This is a course with several water hazards, particularly from the first to the 14th.

How about his long game? This year, he is ranked 10th for Greens in Regulation and 55th for Driving Accuracy; in two of his past four starts, he has placed third for the latter. He can then patiently plan his route from the tee to the green. What about the visuals? modern layout, a lot of water, and high terrain with fescue grass in motion? His victory on the Challenge Tour occurred in Samsun, Turkey, and it was very similar to this week.

He finished second at Celtic Manor in August, then finished second again at Galgorm Castle before failing to make the cut at Himmerland and succeeding at Wentworth. Nice form, and I like a player who has played well before falling off, particularly if, like Syme, it wasn’t due to poor form.

I also like that a lot of recent Le Golf winners were also in great shape at Celtic Manor.  Syme can transfer this form to Paris because he has done it numerous times.

Matthew Southgate  (Each-Way) To Win

£20 bet returns £295 (if placed) with Betvictor

Each Way Bet: Matthew Southgate

A few years back, Matthew Southgate penned the following in a DP World Tour blog: “Le Golf National would be my choice as the weekend’s only course to play with a friend.” We are fortunate to play on a variety of courses, including links, parkland, long, and tight ones. Le Golf National is the outstanding course.” He missed the cut there early in his career (2013), but after making a name for himself at this level, he sandwiched a second missed weekend with finishes of 11th in 2016 and sixth in 2018.

He is a good hitter off the tee, which helps, and you get the feeling that this links expert likes the setting as well. He started the European Masters with a 65 and finished it with a 66 for a 23rd-place finish. He has been playing quite well lately. Prior to finishing 4th behind Oliver Wilson in Denmark, he shared the lead after 54 holes.

He followed that up by finishing 27th the previous week at the Italian Open and 13th at Wentworth for the BMW PGA Championship.
He was quite delighted with his form in Surrey, and I’m sure he’ll be over the moon to be back at a favourite course, so he surely has what it takes to be in contention and looks like a great each-way punt.
