Main Bet: Jason Day To Win

At 28/1, Jason Day has my attention. The Australian has won this competition twice (in 2015 and 2018), but his impressive course record doesn’t stop there.

Day finished second in 2014 after finishing ninth in 2013, finished in the top five when making his defense in 2019, and added a third place in 2017 when his form was less consistent than it is currently. The former World No. 1 is once again displaying consistency; his tie for 18th place at the American Express Open last week was his sixth placing of 21st or above in his previous six competitions.

The foundation of those strong finishes is solid tee-to-green play rather than dazzling putting, and in four of the five tournaments where Strokes Gained was in play, Day finished in the top 20 for TTG. The 2015 US PGA champion remarked last week: “Thank goodness, I feel terrific.” Actually, I’ve been feeling fantastic for a very long time. So I’ve just been feeling healthier. I believe I’m acting appropriately. not only on the golf field but off it as well.

“Overall, it’s been very, really wonderful for me over the last six to twelve months.” Last year, Day utilized The American Express as a warm-up, placing 49th there before reaping the rewards and taking home a top-three finish. Therefore, finishing 18th in La Quinta on Sunday is quite encouraging. Consider Day, 28/1.
