The first international break of 2023 is an interesting one, as we have the first round of the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Twenty of the remaining 23 places for Germany European Championship 2024 will be decided by November in what will be a thrilling eight-month campaign to secure a ticket to the finals.

Euro 2024 qualifiers group by group preview and predictions
Group A
Teams: Spain, Scotland, Norway, Georgia, Cyprus
Can Scotland finish in the top two? Very difficult, as Spain and Norway are surely better equipped. The Norwegians have a certain Erling Haaland in their side, which should guarantee them goals, and they can also count on the likes of Martin Odegaard as support in midfield to create opportunities.
Despite having these two top players, though, Norway failed to qualify for the last World Cup, and with Haaland already out for this first round due to injury, it is hard to see them overcoming a Spain side that will be willing to bounce back after the disappointing World Cup campaign in which they were eliminated in the last 16 by Morocco. Spain and Norway should progress to the Euro 2024 finals.
Winner: Spain
Group B
Teams: Netherlands, France, Republic of Ireland, Greece, Gibraltar
The winner of this group would be easier to predict after the opener, as the Netherlands make the trip to Paris to face France. The Irish and the Greek don’t appear to have the skills to upset the two giants in a group that should favor them, so it will probably be damage control for the other teams.France have an extraordinary quality in their ranks, and we back them to end at the top of the group, with the Dutch following.
Winner: France
Group C
Teams: Italy, England, Ukraine, North Macedonia, Malta
England are the favorites to win the group, but they would have to be careful with a hungry Italy, who will be determined to make amends after missing out on the World Cup in Qatar. The Azzurri have gone through a couple of strange years, as after winning Euro 2022 they were shockingly eliminated by North Macedonia in the playoffs last year, and although we expect an improvement from them, it is clear that they are in the midst of a generational change, so there will be more ups and downs from them.
Even though Gareth Southgate’s England didn’t play well in key games in the finals, they should be more reliable and have played well in recent qualifiers, so we back them to win first place.
Winner:England
Group D
Teams: Croatia, Wales, Armenia, Turkey, Latvia
Will they miss Gareth Bale? Surely they will, and this campaign is likely to show a team in transition. Despite finishing third in the World Cup, we do expect Croatia to also have some issues as many veterans have left the building and it will take them some time to find new protagonists.
A golden opportunity for Turkey to win this group after they did so well in the World Cup qualifiers, where they pushed Netherlands all the way, finishing just two points behind and losing to Portugal in the playoffs. It’s a good value to back them to top this uncertain group.
Winner: Turkey
Group E
Teams: Poland, Czech Republic, Albania, Faroe Islands, Moldova
This was pretty much the softer group that all the big boys wanted to be in. Poland, who have won 23 of their 31 qualifying games, should secure the pass for neighboring Germany without too much trouble, with the Czech Republic or Albania claiming the second place in the group.
Winner: Poland
Group F
Teams: Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Estonia
After the departure of Roberto Martinez, there will be several changes to the squad, and we do expect to see a much more motivated team under Domenico Tedesco. The Belgians have a very good qualifying record in recent years, and with Austria and Sweden struggling to keep the standards of recent years, the Red Devils should come in first, and we expect a close fight for Austria and Sweden for the second position.
Winner: Belgium
Group G
Teams: Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Lithuania
Serbia has a very strong team, and they beat Portugal to finish first in their World Cup qualifying group. They didn’t do well in the finals, but in a group of this quality, they should excel with Hungary, which have the quality to follow them in second place.
Winner: Serbia
Group H
Teams: Denmark, Finland, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland, San Marino
Denmark didn’t deliver in Qatar, but they still have a top team, and even if Finland, Slovenia, and Northern Ireland try to cause an upset, it is difficult to see any other team topping this group. Finland, Slovenia, and Northern Ireland will fight for the second position.
Winner: Denmark
Group J
Teams: Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Liechtenstein
Portugal have been rather ‘distracted’ in recent qualifier campaigns, even if they eventually got the job done anyway. To get a ticket to Qatar, they needed the playoffs, and despite this looking like a rather ‘soft’ group, there is some value in backing Bosnia and Herzegovina to cause an upset and win this group. Bosnia were very disappointing in the World Cup qualifying, but they do have a talented squad capable of making it difficult for the Portuguese if the latter won’t be 100% focused from the start.
Winner: Bosnia and Herzegovina

Group I
Teams: Switzerland, Israel, Romania, Kosovo, Belarus, Andorra
The Swiss have been very consistent in recent years, causing some headlines like in the World Cup qualifiers when they topped the group ahead of Italy. Prior to that, they also sent France home at Euro 2020, so it is difficult to see them crumbling in a group that is rather weak. Israel and Romania will probably fight for the second position.
Winner: Switzerland

Euro 2024 Qualifying outsiders treble
We have also picked three standout options to finish in the top two, which can be backed at 18/1. Austria qualified for Euro 2020 last 16 and made it very difficult for the eventual champions Italy in that game. Against Sweden’s side, who are going through a generational change, there is good value in backing them to finish in the top two.
Northern Ireland, who will have Michael O’Neill back for this qualifying campaign, might cause a big upset in a Group H that, if we exclude Denmark, is pretty much balanced. O’Neill managed to bring NI to Euro 2016 and also secured the playoff qualification for the World Cup 2018 and Euro 2020. The Ulstermen surely can have their say against the likes of Finland, Slovenia, and Kazakhstan.
The last team in our treble is Albania. Despite not having made the headlines in recent years, they have grown rather consistently, and they surely have what it takes to get the second position ahead of a modest Czech Republic.
