While Wimbledon might have bid adieu, the grass court season extends for one more week. The ATP Newport tournament often flies under the radar in mainstream coverage, but it provides an opportunity for grass court aficionados to have one final hurrah.

In the bottom half, both Jordan Thompson and Adrian Mannarino have shown impressive form – Thompson was runner-up in Den Bosch before Wimbledon, while Mannarino was a finalist in Mallorca and secured a victory against Taylor Fritz at Queen’s. However, their positioning in the same quarter makes their odds less enticing than one would hope.

There is little separating Thompson and Mannarino based on their head-to-head record, and with the unpredictable Liam Broady in their quarter, attention turns elsewhere. Some might back Kevin Anderson, who is making a comeback from retirement at an event he won two years ago. However, with his lengthy absence, his chances of winning are slim.
This prompts a shift to the top half where Mackenzie McDonald, offered at 10/1, appears to be a solid pick. With impressive victories over Fritz and Borna Coric in the ongoing grass court season, a dismal form from the reigning champion Cressy, and a first-round bye as the fourth seed, McDonald seems to have a favourable draw and it is our pick for this event.

Albert Ramos-Vinolas, an altitude specialist, has caught our eye. With two of his four ATP titles coming at altitude, he boasts a solid track record. ATP Bastad: A Favourite Among Players
The Bastad tournament, located at sea level and often voted by players as a favourite, boasts an impressive line-up, including four of the world’s top 20 players and Alex Zverev. Casper Ruud is a justifiable favourite, with a proven record of performing well at this time of year.
However, with such a competitive field, the motivation levels of top players such as Andrey Rublev and Zverev might be questionable.
