Main Bet: Ashun Wu

Among favourites, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Branden Grace, and Charl Schwartzel have all already experienced triumph in this competition. However, foreign raiders have also had success. American David Lipsky prevailed in 2018, while three Spaniards—Alvaro Quiros, Pablo Martin Benavides, and Pablo Larrazabal—have a combined four victories. John Bickerton defeated Ernie Els in 2007. Can Ashun Wu become one of them? I fail to see why not.

The Chinese golfer truly stands out at the moment since he is playing quite consistently without getting noticed by the books. He has competed in all four rounds of the Italian Open and Andalucia Masters in his last seven starts, shared the first round lead at the Open de Espana on his way to finishing 13th, finished 16th at the Mallorca Open, finished in the top 30 at the Nedbank Challenge and DP World Tour Championship, and last week found himself fourth with 18 holes left before having to settle for ninth.

I’m happy to take him at the price because those are good returns for a four-time winner at this level (his most recent victory came earlier this year in Kenya). If you want to try something different, try Scot Marc Warrer. He has made five of his past six cuts, and although he only competed in the first one, he has shown signs of returning to form in the other five. At the Open de Espana, he began the round of eight after placing third after 54 holes.

Later, he finished rounds one and two of the Andalucia Masters, Mallorca Open, and South African Open in the top 20. After 18 holes in the Portugal Masters, he was still in the same spot. This is a decent alternative if you are looking for higher returns or a place bet.
