England To Win

Italy are ordinarily quite good at home, but they haven’t played together since November, and even then, they’ve only participated in rather pointless friendly matches. England have also played the last time in December, but they went through a serious competition, and the squad that Gareth Southgate will field tonight is more or less the same one that took on France in that unlucky quarterfinal. Add to this the fact that Italy is missing some key players in their already rather weak attacking department.

The likes of Ciro Immobile and Federico Chiesa are both out, and even if this will give Mancini the opportunity to trial Grifo and Retegui, the reality is that this is a very inexperienced Italian side that will likely struggle to keep up with the Three Lions. Gareth Southgate can rely on several top players in excellent form, including Saka, Bellingham, and Kane, who have been scoring like crazy this season, and this should be enough to get the job done against an Italian side that is in ‘transition’ and very different from the one seen at the last Euro.

Alessio Romagnoli To Be Shown A Card

Alessio Romagnoli has picked up cards regularly this season everywhere he has been played. Lazio’s defender was booked two times in Serie A, where he is averaging a foul per game, and also received two yellow cards in just four games played in the Europa League.

It is not yet clear if he will start today, but he is likely to play a part in this game as Mancini will want fresh legs on the left side of the pitch, where Saka is likely to cause the Italians all sorts of problems. Saka is a player very capable of drawing fouls, so this will be a difficult evening for him, and he is likely to collect a yellow card at some point.

Over 10 Corners

Even in the disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign, Roberto Mancini’s men have generated plenty of goal opportunities, even if the conversion and the final product weren’t there most of the time. They have averaged 7.2 corners per game, which is pretty high, and since they are playing at home tonight, you can expect that they will be able to deliver a decent number of corners, even if they play against a strong opponent. England are on lower numbers, as they had an average of 5.6 in the previous World Cup qualifier and 5 at the last World Cup finals. Even with this average, though, the two teams should get over this line pretty comfortably.
