New Zealand v Wales Tips & Predictions
1st November 2019 – 09:00
Match Preview & Team News
It will be an emotional evening on Friday in Tokyo as New Zealand and Wales are to battle it out in a bronze-medal match at the World Cup 2019. Both Warren Gatland and Steve Hansen will lead their respective teams for the very last time in the match of farewells. The third-place battle usually has no significance as teams go into it disappointed after semi-final defeats. This one will be specific as both managers will clearly want a victory in their last games in charge. Also, this is still the biggest stage.
The All Blacks will thus lose the crown on Saturday when England and South Africa take on each other in the gold-medal tie. New Zealand won back-to-back World Cups in 2011 and 2015. They were shockingly stopped by England in the last weekend’s semi-final scoring no more than 7 points in 80 minutes.
Steve Hansen made eight changes to the squad that fell to England. Kieran Ried, Ben Smith and Sonny Bill Williams are all set to feature for the very last time at the World Cup. The Welsh manager made as many as nine changes from Sunday’s narrow loss at the hands of South Africa. Warren Gatland will be highly motivated to see his men pulling off a huge upset here for various reasons.
Gatland would be remembered in history as the man who led Wales to third place at the World Cup. Moving forward, New Zealand are the only team Wales have never defeated in 12 years with Gatland at the helm (11 losses in a row). The All Blacks last lost to Wales back in 1953.
Full Time Winner Odds & Prediction
The odds favour New Zealand heavily here, but we would not like to underestimate Wales whose motivation will be at a much higher level. We’ll try with Wales to win at sky-high 17/2 odds as the main bet here.
Asian Handicap Market Prediction
The second pick is Wales not to lose by more than 18 points difference at the odds of 19/20.
