Following a couple of well backed disappointments yesterday (15/8 into 8/11 third and 3/1 into 7/4 second), Steve Ryder previews two races on Monday 8th January. Jan P&L -2.90pts.
3:15 Fontwell- Cloudy Beach 15/8 (1pt)
Cloudy Beach has a lot of positives going for him coming into this race. He has won a novice hurdle and a novice chase on his two starts at Fontwell. He handles the forecast heavy ground which he will face tomorrow having won twice on heavy ground last year. The form of his second placed finish last time behind Grand Vision has been boosted with the winner finishing a close second in a handicap chase shown on ITV (now rated 5lb higher). Cloudy Beach has been raised 1lb for that effort but he should prove hard to beat with Venetia Williams coming into form (4 wins from 17 24%SR) and the fitting of first time cheekpieces.
4:15 Wolverhampton- Dark Alliance 4/1 (1pt)
Dark Alliance is really well handicapped based on his from for Adrian Keatley. In January 2017 he was rated 81 having won a handicap at Dundalk but runs here off a mark of 67 after a couple of runs for Daniel Loughnane. His run over C&D last time was very interesting where he travelled really well into the race before being slightly hampered on the bend into the straight. He then ran on well at the end to finish 5th and has amazingly been dropped 3lb for that effort. Edward Greatrex is a jockey in form having won 4 out of his last 8 rides and Dark Alliance has been well backed since the prices opened.
